I was thinking about how at least three characters from the early X-Men comics had metaphorical code names, but later underwent changes to make the code names more literal:
- The Beast was basically just a normal-looking human who was a bit like an ape, but a few years later he literally turned into a beast.
- The Scarlet Witch was not a witch, just a mutant whose powers resembled hexes or curses. She later studied witchcraft and has been considered mostly a magic character for some time.
- The Toad was so called because of his suck-up behavior to Magneto, but he later got some of the physical qualities of a toad.
Are there other examples of this that come to mind, where a character was changed to make their code names more accurate?
One other one that comes to my mind is that in The Crossing, the Wasp mutated into a human-insect hybrid. That didn't last long though.

Black Widow looks like she's hoping some writer doesn't turn her into an actual black widow.
