Default Comics to Read Before the Movie?

With the Wonder Woman movie coming out in just a few weeks I'm wondering what are some good Wonder Woman comics to read in preparation. I'm familiar with her character in the JLA and Trinity comics and I've also read Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia and the new 52 Superman/Wonder Woman comics but I prefer pre-52 comics. Any suggestions?

I suggest you don't because there aren't any that likely will apply to the movie. There certainly didn't exist any Superman comics to read before Man Of Steel or Dawn Of Justice.

Read them because they're good or because the character interests you, not as homework to do for a movie.

Wonder Woman by George Perez Vol. 1

George Perez pretty much established the modern Wonder Woman as we know her. When you hear people like Geoff Johns and Greg Rucka talking about "going back to basics" with the character, they're talking about Perez's Diana.

Rucka's first run on the character before the events of "Infinite Crisis" probably does the best job with expanding upon and/or updating themes and elements from Perez's foundation.

This was a fun story that came after the shakeup of the "Infinite Crisis" and "52" shake-up. It was written by Alan Heinberg (one of the movie's screenwriters) with beautiful art by Terry and Rachel Dodson.

These three trades are readily available and easy to find. Both the Perez and Rucka trades have follow-up "Volume 2" collections coming later this summer.

The movie sets Wonder Woman back in the early 20th century and I don't think there was ever a comic book that did that. Maybe an Elseworld? but not one I can think of right now. The closest to that is probably the WONDER WOMAN TV show that suggested Wonder Woman was something like a thousand years old.

Better to read Alan Moore's PROMETHEA which might be closer to the mark.
