Realistically going forward , what to expect

With the final film in the trilogy of trilogies underway , Solo out soon , mooted Obi Wan film and other properties , how can we retain the spirit of Star Wars with the only real original character left is basically a glorified Taxi Driver.

Will Finn , Rey , Poe ,BB8 and Rose last beyond the 9th? With Leia out of the picture can we retain a link to the older films and still keep the whole ethos of the SW originals intact ?

Im worried they will just flood the market with unrelated stories and because its under the banner of SW , we will watch them.

Star Wars is NOT just the original cast. The original cast while fantastic and iconic, is also not the only thing that makes these movies as good as they are. They're not entirely what makes this universe so fun and enjoyable.

We have to move on and whatever the sequel trilogy cast does beyond that trilogy is entirely up to the writers at the helm.

This is almost no different to Star Wars at any other point in time.
It's been three years (4 since the purge) and the only thing that is a unanimous failure was the Battlefront games. The movies are making money (despite what some want you to believe), we have our first show entirely of this era coming to its own closing (its not cancelled its just reached its conclusion), and we are only on our second (Solo) anthology film with an almost assured break for the following trilogy.

I think for any of the central stories(ie the numbered episodes), they will keep bringing back the previous cast to provide that link and allow the story to continue. I'm sure we'll have a better idea to base our conjecture on after episode IX!

We will not see Driver, like Harrison Ford before him he will actually have a thriving movie career outside of these movies. Unfortunately for Boyega Hollywood has finally found its post Denzel Washington/Will Smith pecking order and it appears to be Chadwick Boseman and Michael B Jordan. Yeah, I know it's 2018 and its messed up that Hollywood is still doing the two black guys bit but Hollywood is Hollywood. He will be in these movies for as long as they need him. Ridley has gone on record as saying that this is her last one, but I wouldn't be so quick to close the door if I were her.....

Well, Harrison Ford's definitely the last Star Wars movies he is in were Empire, Jedi, and Awakens.

I think at this point, with Rebels ending, and the sequel series wrapping up with Episode IX, that going forward Star Wars live action/animation will finally leave the era of the Empire/Fledgling New Republic/First Order behind. Whether that means focusing going backwards in time, or forward.
