Default Rank The Star Wars Movies

Rank the movies from your favorite to least favorite. Here's my ranks:

IV - A New Hope. Nothing will be as good as this. I watched this when it came out in the theaters and was blown away by it and it's still the greatest.
V - ESB. Right up there with New Hope. I loved everything about this one. The battle between Luke and Vader, the big reveal, Han's fate at the end and his teary goodbye to Chewie and Leia. Awesome stuff!
VII - The Force Awakens. The more I watch this one, the better it gets. I've seen it four times now and I love it.
III - Revenge of the Sith. So much action, so much great interaction between the characters and great scenes. Anakin and Ben's epic battle, Darth Sidious' battle with the Jedi and also against Yoda. The heartbreak of Padme's death and Ben's loss of a friend in Anakin's betrayal. And Order 66.
VI - Return of the Jedi. Just an all around neat and fun movie (except for the Ewoks). I love how Luke never gives up on his dad and the redemption of him when he finally stops Darth Sidious.
I - The Phantom Menace. Two words----Darth Maul.
II - Attack of the Clones. It's not a bad movie, it's just not as good as the others.

I'd flip III and VI for my list. Ewok annoyance is more palatable than romance with Padme annoyance.

Yeah, that really dragged the movie down for me. It was a waste of time.

Leaving the Ewok movies out of the equation:

    1. Empire Strikes Back
    2. Rogue One
    3. Revenge of the Sith
    4. A New Hope
    5. The Force Awakens
    6. Return of the Jedi
    7. The Phantom Menace
    8. Attack of the Clones
    9. The Clone Wars movie

Sticking to the 7 "core" movies:

    1. The Empire Strikes Back
    2. The Force Awakens
    3. A New Hope
    4. Return of the Jedi
    5. Revenge of the Sith
    6. Attack of the Clones
    7. The Phantom Menace

    5 - Empire Strikes Back
    4 - A New Hope
6 - Return of the Jedi
    7 - The Force Awakens
    1 - Phantom Menace
3 - Revenge of the Sith
2 - Attack of the Clones

I haven't watched Rogue One yet so I don't have an opinion on it yet. I kinda flip flop on Force Awakens and Return of the Jedi but I need to rewatch Force Awakens a couple more times to really be sure. Revenge of the Sith is probably the "best" of the prequel movies, but the more restrained use of CG(I know there is definitely a bit, but I feel like not as much as Revenge and DEFINITELY not as much as Clones) makes Phantom stick out better in my memory.

    1. Empire

    2. Star Wars

    3. Return of The Jedi-I have to say I don't loathe the Ewoks as much as most peeps seem to.

    4. Force Awakens-gets right everything the prequels got wrong.

    5. Rogue One-better battles than FA but worse characters (except for Donnie Yen) land it here.

    6. Revenge of the Sith-the prequel movie I hate the least.

    7. Phantom Menace-This movie is a lot more tolerable when you remember its target audience is 10 year old boys and it shows.

    8. Attack of the Clones-The Padme/Anakin stuff is...really bad and it doesn't seem to ever end.

Okay then. There may a slight disconnect between the two trilogies though and I still haven't seen 'Rogue One'.

IV - One of the most ground-breaking movies of all time. A timeless fusion of sci-fi opera, universe building, special effects and music. A film that could have gone spectacularly wrong, and many thought it would, but melded together perfectly to usher in a new era of cinematic greatness.

V - Even better. Lucas had the genius idea to delegate the directing duties to Irvin Kershner, a move that paid huge dividends to the franchise. The greatest SW film ever made and one that I doubt will ever be surpassed.

VI - Undeniably the weakest film of the Classic Trilogy but still with plenty to recommend it. At times suffers through director Richard Marquand's inexperience with special effects. Hardly his fault. Imagine if it had the Battle of Kashyyk as opposed to the Battle of Endor though.

I - I don't hate The Phantom Menace as much as many others do. All three Prequels suffer from the same faults, all of which can be boiled down to Lucas' deficiencies as a director. Wooden acting, atrocious dialogue ('Many things will change when we reach the capital Ani, but my caring for you will remain') and weak plotting. As well as some godawful attempts at light humour and relief from Lucas that backfire so badly it's embarrassing to watch.

II - The worst SW film in my opinion. When I was younger I was told that Anakin Skywalker was a valiant Jedi Knight and pilot that, sadly succumbed to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader. Now I know that he's a whining, moping, creepy tosspot with mummy issues. And as for any scene in this film with C3PO in it? Shudder.

III - The best of the Prequel Trilogy but still lacking (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO). I have this mental image of Lucas working in his study and his young son walking in with a Chewbacca doll. 'Daddy, my favourite character is Chewbacca. Can he be in the new film?' the son asks. 'Of course son' replies Lucas, shoehorning Chewie into the movie and NOT ONE SINGLE BLOODY PERSON can stop him.

VII - Not bad but overrated. Not much to say about this one.

1: Empire. No explanation necessary. Practically the perfect sequel.

2: ANH: The classic, and still great.

3: Rogue 1: flawed, but still a fine movie.

4: Revenge of the Sith: The Romance is bad, but everything else works great

5: Force Awakens: Falls apart at the end and sticks to close to ANH, but good for what it is.

6: Return of the Jedi: Very uneven, but a good conclusion.

7: Clone Wars: An underrated film with good characterization.

8: Phantom Menace: Some great scenes and great ideas, but the script seems like a first draft and it has an abundance of Jar Jar

9: Attack of the Clones: some good actions scenes, but the awful, awful romance and incredibly bad acting sink the film.

    6:

    1. The Empire Strikes Back
    2. Star Wars
    3. The Force Awakens
    4. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    5. Attack of the Clones
    6. Return of the Jedi
    7. The Phantom Menace
    8. Revenge of the Sith

    A few notes:
-Episodes IV and V are very close to being tied for me. They bring different things to the table, and I love the both. Empire just edges it out.
-Episode VI was my favourite as a kid. Mostly because of the Battle of Endor.
-Episode II is my favourite prequel. I love the Obi-Wan story, and while the young actors aren't very good, I do like the origins of the love story. And I love the Battle of Geonosis and the Arena sequence.
-Episode III is the worst. I know this is an unpopular opinion. I didn't think it had any tension, because we knew (at least generally) how it would end. Ian McDiarmid is one of the best parts of Star Wars, but in this his makeup was bad and his cackling was over the top. I also think it looked incredibly fake. I don't mind green screen effects, but it needs to be a bit better if the only real thing on the set is an actor.
-I've been really digging the new movies. I loved Episode VII and Rogue One. I get the criticism that The Force Awakens is a rehash of A New Hope, but I'm ok with that. A rehash of an amazing movie is still a pretty good movie.

Still not over the promised Planet of Wookiees in RoTJ.

    Spinoffs:
    1. Rogue One
    2. The Clone Wars
    3. The Holiday Special
    4. Ewok Movies

If I put spinoffs in, The Ewoks would be down on the bottom and Rogue One would be between TFA and ESB.

    Shows:
    1. The Clone Wars
    2. Droids
    3. Rebels
    4. Clone Wars
    5. Ewoks

    I really hate Ewoks.
