Yeah 38 minutes ago as of the time of this writing Calloway just did a live confirming this, and thanking all the fans who supported him.

Disappointing, but not surprising. Alas, we'll just have to hope the series finale tonight is good enough as an endpoint for (this version of) Black Lightning.
The spider is always on the hunt.
Look at who was behind Naomi's tv series.
Look at who just bought or invested in AT&T.
Look at who Discovery also OWNS...
Look at who has stuff on what Discovery OWNS.
If Naomi doesn't work or struggle on the CW-don't be shocked if it (and Batwoman) should find extra airings on the Oprah Network. Heck I wouldn't be shocked if Tom Swift and Nancy Drew don't end up there in the long run.
That revelation regarding Jen was a nice surprise.
Don't forget Legends. That started as a backdoor pilot on Arrow and Flash. And Batwoman KINDA had a backdoor pilot during Elseworlds.
It feels like they've had so much success bringing these shows to air, that they never considered the fact that the network would reject them. The last time they did reject a show (Supergirl), the CW regretted passing on it, and when it became available after CBS decided not to renew, they snatched it up. Then Berlanti pitched Batwoman, and the CW picked it up.
I'm sure they felt they had a sure bet with Green Arrow and the Canaries- it was a continuation of the first Arrowverse show, featuring both established characters from the old series, with new actors that had smaller roles in the last two seasons who would go on to helm the show. But for whatever reason- be it the pandemic, be it the premise of the show (set in the future), they passed.
Painkiller, to me, was the riskier venture. It felt weird to give that character his own show. So it didn't surprise me that the passed on that.
The shocker to me was that they passed on Wonder Girl. They had a golden opportunity to have a true version of the Trinity- a Bat, a Super, and an Amazon (even if it was the new one)- and yet they passed on it for a show featuring another character that not many people know (Naomi), but who doesn't have a legacy behind her.
Looks like a spin-off is in the works for Anissa, Jen, Grace, TC, Khalil, Lala and Detective Shakur.
The CW hasn’t announced its fall lineup yet, so we’ll see.
I wanted Painkiller and Jen back together but was happy they brought her back the way they did.
