One of my favorite movies for 33 years since i was 3 when i saw the original on HBO and i have the 2-disc CD soundtrack, poster, a couple of shirts, action figure, graphic novels and can't wait for the new book in time for the 35th anniversary.

This should be a promising unique prequel show about the history of Thra with practical effects, puppets, animatronics, people in costumes, miminal CGI and more. Julie Kavner should play Aughra.

You glad practical effects are still being used like Mad Max 4, Nolan's movies even his Batman stuff, The Void and a few other things?

^Sure: and of course, things like Doctor Who and other TV stuff still use practical monster suits and things. I'm a big fan of classic, pre-digital special effects techniques (though I've got nothing against good CGI).

I'm happy to hear Jurassic World II and Godzilla: King of the Monsters will use some manner of practical creature effects/animatronics, but the thing about big studio movies in the last ten years is that they have a tendency (either directors or the studio) to go really control freak in post and replace or augment to hell any practical effect that was on set, effectively replacing practical with a layer of CGI. One good person on this front is Guillermo del Toro, who's always got a lot of great practical effects in his films, even something that seems mostly digital like Pacific Rim (where practical miniature buildings were interspersed).

Glad to know this series will be released next year. The sequel Power of the Dark Crystal was delayed too many times until it got cancelled. It never had the chance to start pre-production.
