No mention of The Hiketeia yet?

Most of the DC stuff I get is part of a series, but the first two Batman/TMNT crossover stories and the Supergirl TV show tie-in were pretty good.

    From DC itself:

    Watchmen
    JLA: Year One
    Dark Knight Returns
    Batman: Year One
    Kingdom Come
    All-Star Superman
    Mister Miracle
    Omega Men
    New Frontier
    The Golden Age
    Superman: Red Son
    Superman: Secret Identity
    Batman: Mad Love
    JLA: Earth 2
    Superman: Birthright
    Superman: Secret Origin
    JLA: The Nail
    Green Lantern: Willworld
    Lex Luthor: Man of Steel
    Wonder Woman: The True Amazon
    Batman: Noel
    Wonder Woman: Earth One
    Green Lantern: Earth One

    From Vertigo:

    Daytripper
Death the High Cost of Living
    Brooklyn Dreams
The Complete Moonshadow (neither of these two are currently at Vertigo but they were published there and the editions I have are from Vertigo)
    It's A Bird
    V For Vendetta
Dark Knight: A True Batman Tale
You said no single volumes of ongoing series, but Batman Year One is a single volume of the ongoing Batman series as it collects issues 404-407 of the run.

Moonshadow was first published as a Marvel Epic book several years before it was reprinted at Vertigo.

Yeah, I admit, I knew I was cheating with Moonshadow but the copy I have is Vertigo so that's how I think about it. Year One, though, may have come from the ongiong series but it was an entirely standalone arc with no connection to the ongiong series, as far as I know, and a completely different creative team so I'l make an exception for it.

While I'd rather get her a full graphic novel for her birthday, I'll still check this out. Thank you!

I haven't read much so, for now, it's either The Killing Joke or Batman Year One. Each still has things I dislike from them so they're not perfect.

    OK.
    I can't believe I forgot about:
Batman: Red Rain trilogy! Red Rain Blood Storm & Crimson Mist

Kelley Jones was the perfect fit for these books.

If the criteria is just stand alone stories regardless of continuity:

    Batman: Year One

    Watchmen

    Superman: American Alien

    V for Vendetta

    Superman: Secret Identity

    Kingdom Come

    Superman: End of the Century

    Justice League: The Nail

    Trinity

    Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia

    Superman: Birthright

    Superman/Batman: Generations Vols. 1-2

Most of the Earth One books are pretty good.

There is actually not a single thing I dislike about Year One. From writing to art, it is probably the most perfect comic I can think of.
