I posted this in the TV/Film threads regarding "The Dirt" the Motely Crue movie.
I finally watched the 2nd half of the movie today. I guess it was Ok...it was entertaining cheese. The guy who played Tommy won me over as did the actor who was Doc McGee and "Mick Mars." All the debauchery didn't bother me, I knew that it was kind of the point, but I sorta wish the movie provided more context to how Motely Crue fit into the music biz and what else was going on culturally. I'd say MTV played a big part helping them get over. And there were a lot of rock fans who actually hated The Crue thinking they were all image and no talent. I was also a little surprised that they didn't mention the Moscow Peace Fest stuff. And it almost felt like they neglected a couple of albums.
I was also a little surprised to hear a Johnny Thunders song in the movie.
Thing is, when I was a teenager, I really wasn't a big Crue fan. In fact, I thought they were quite cheesy. It was like Kiss, Alice, and the New York Dolls did what they were doing better and and had way better songs. Having said that, growing up when I did and liking rock music there was no way I didn't know about them. And every once in awhile, they did come up with a catchy hook or two despite the cheese.
Oh! For what it's worth, the original album cover was a drawing of a pentagram, but they swapped it with photos of the band in some stores cuz..."Satan!"

From a completely different corner, Yngwie with Alcatrazz and dude from Rainbow.
More shredding! Dave and Marty
I haven't thought about these guys in years, but remember seeing this video on MTV a number of times
Bruce Kulick got a shout out in the Matt Fraction Hawkeye comics...
also, we're wearing pastels cuz it's the 80's
"What be this an' what be that?"
I think Vinnie might be the one former member they weren't able to patch things over with after leaving the group?
CLIFF 'EM ALL!
Also, James has a bullet wrist band cuz 80's...
This is from the 80's so when Wendy says "straight" she doesn't mean hetero here, she means "guy who works a 9-to-5 job"...
The album this song is from is called W.O.W. and Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley from Kiss are all over it ( Plus Ace ).
Seriously into Judas Priest at the moment. I've always been a fan but they're currently encroaching onto the 'Favourite Metal Band Of All Time' territory that's previously been the exclusive domain of Iron Maiden. Releasing such a brilliant album as 'Firepower' helped of course. their best album since 'Painkiller'.
To follow on from comments made above, I'm also not a big Motley Crue fan historically. Thing is, this title track from the new 'The Dirt' movie is one of their all-time best in my opinion. Where were songs as good as this a decade ago Nikki?
