Probably just a homage. Doesn’t make sense, I agree. But it’s just a cover.

She wouldn’t have all the adamantium spikes coming out of her as only her claws are coated in the metal.

Lots of love for Laura as the Wolverine on these covers. She’s getting her time to shine.
It's kind of strange that there's not much for Polaris or Synch regarding variant covers. We could probably say X-Men vote covered any need for Lorna, but same can't be said for Synch. I can't recall Synch having any covers focused on him yet.

Yes. She has become one of the five most popular X-Men in a short period of time by being allowed to play on legacy themes in a unique female oriented way from that of her very popular and well known father.
Lorna's failure as a character the past decade in the comics and yes its been a failure I will say it unabashedly as a Polaris fan she has been losing comic readers with time not gaining them since M-Day is Marvel comics version of dealing with legacy issues for her has been looking at her from the prospective of a generic female heroine with mental health problems looking at her complex and multifaceted dad and trying to understand him.
Lorna has only ever had sustained interest growth when she was an ass kicker in her own right defending mutants which you would have to go back to 2004 to have any of that from her. At its core its been about wanting Lorna to draw popularity from the 'daughter of Magneto' title without her possessing any of the themes that lead people to root for her father and buy his comics and merchandise.

I know it's part of a group shot but I'll definitely be picking this one up and loving it forever.
