That cover variant is showcasing the X-Men team from like a year ago. Things were rocky between Jean and Scott when they got in an argument over how to handle the Brood, which is why they look distant from each other. They've both long since gotten over it.

It wasn't even a good argument to be honest. While I think Scott was probably right, I'd much rather live in a world where Jean was, and I think Scott would feel the same.

Jean and Scott were at odds briefly during this run

well Duggan reinforced that Jean was right in the most recent issue of FoX. The Brood being alive allowed them to be used as soldiers i the war against Orchis

I'm sure that they will soon be back to committing genocide in order to survive either the next time they appear, or the one after that. I'd like to think that Broo would be able to shift them somewhat, and that those changes could survive past him, but the moment a writer thinks things would be easier for their story by undoing all that, it's gonna be gone.

The Brood are Marvels version of the Xenomorph. Now that the Aliens/Predator franchises are cannon in the 616 I bet an Alien/Brood war could be in the works.

Looks awesome! I wonder why Storm is the only one in her current look?
Kurt also is, but he’s kept his classic costume for ages.

Well, Colossus also has his current look, as the zaddy beard seems to confirm it. The only ones with the classic look seem to be Cyclops and maybe Wolverine.

Well, Colossus and Nightcrawler both have their original costumes but their current bearded looks. So it's a mash-up really. I'd love it if this means will get a reprint of the classic X-Men vs Micronauts mini in the 2nd Micronauts Omnibus later in the year.

    I love Taurin Clarke's art.
I especially love Cyke's optic blast being solid red, not white with a reddish-pink glow. I miss that.

Nah, both Cyclops and Wolverine are currently wearing those costumes as recently as Fall of House of X #2
