To the notion of nostalgia somehow being bad in and of itself, if someone only wants new things and thinks that anything in a comic that recalls the past in any way that intends to elicit a sense of recognition, reading the ongoing serialized adventures of characters that occupy a decades old shared universe is really the wrong tree to bark up. Literally, you're in the wrong place and you should just move on to books that don't have the kind of thick legacy that characters in a shared universe do. Read Image. You'll never have to complain about experiencing a sense of deja vu again. The fact is, there's a long history to the X-Men that - for most readers - is part of its appeal. Of course popular characters are always going to return eventually. And of course these characters might sport a familiar look. If this sort of thing only makes you throw up your hands, maybe it's time to move on. If not permanently, than for a extended break.

How much do you get paid by Marvel to argue in favour of endless nostalgia in one year and argue that every character should be replaced by legacies in another year for the sake of freshness?

The only aspect of this that means anything to me is how I can use Cyclops and Havok on the same book as proof that Polaris and Magneto aren't "redundant" and can do the same thing.

It's also more evidence of Marvel putting Havok on a pedestal while continuing to hold Polaris back because people at Marvel are deeply nostalgic for how past writers saw and treated each of them. Doesn't matter if the nostalgia's bad, just as long as it's nostalgia.
