I doubt anyone thought Blee did this with any intention of being maliciously racist. However, not properly presenting dark skin in different lighting and having the result just be to lighten the skin altogether is still egregious and disgusting. Originally Posted by PsychoEFrost

If done in error or lack of know-how or faulty colour separation in printing...we do not know the actual reason...then it can neither be "egregious" nor "disgusting". Maybe it was only recognised after 01and 02 had gone to print and by the critique of 01 (almost everyone who read the book brought it up, I'm sure) was able to correct the error.

We know that it made it past editors to print. And to be honest that’s all we need to know. How many years have been dedicated to making sure colorists know how to fucking draw black people. You can tip your hat to the bare minimum but people shouldn’t be congratulated for being able to understand how I look in neon light.
