I think Monet gets drawn or coloured inconsistently, because sometimes the artist is told "she is Half French-Half Algerian", and Algerian berbers or arabs aren't black, so she is drawn as a dark caucasian. Other times other artists hear that same thing, and think Algeria = Africa = black, and makes her black.
I think for consistency, she should be drawn like a mixed race european-black person, which I think is what they wanted when she was created in the mid 90s.
In the original Age of Apocalypse, we get to see Marius Emplate healthy, without having absorbed penance and without the mask, and he looks pretty black.
Compare him to the Bedlam brothers above.
