Japanese in Japan didn't care about scar jo in ghost in the shell because japanese culture is the dominant one in japan so it didn't matter to most that an american was playing a fictional manga character. There was a lot of backlash around Memoirs of a gesha and how all the japanese characters were played by chinese actors.

Yes thats Yu. Marvel is really promoting these book featuring only one known character so far. Sounds kinda conflicting with respect to how they are handling x-books nowadays.



I got this one by David Mack with Asian Psylocke lol

So they all seem to Kwannon psylocke (the second one is really pushing it tho). Yu's psylocke is looking very whitesque because despite being very talented, the man only uses the same two face shapes for the characters he draws.

This makes me wonder how many Marvel character can't actualy be used as legacy characters or as basis for different alternate versions? Because thinking about it right now, the list feels pretty small.

Also, IIRC, IN THE MANGA ITSELF the character frequently used Caucasian bodies.

The ongoing X-Books by their very association being XM and solidly established, don't need as great a promotion and marketing.

I can't and don't comment on X-book sales because I don't really follow the numbers nor do I care that much to follow the numbers. Marvel cannot pay me to worry about how and why their promotions and marketing aren't working.

X-men doesnt need nonstop variants to get a profit, wich is what these are for: to get the comic stores to order many versions of the same book that then go into the one dollar bin.
many variants on a fresh, new, one-shot are the most common things ever and lack of variants isnt a sign of lack of profit, venom is top 5 and the book isn't getting these many variants.
Is it a failure now ?

Im not sure where you get the idea a line with several non flagship satelite books reaching 20 issues is a sales failure, and vote x-men trended worldwide on twitter, they have promo.
