Why not? I think she's a really fascinating character - broken, powerful, has her own goals and desires, but keeps getting used by others like Addy and Slade. Though she's clearly inspired by the Wolfman/Perez version, she's got more agency and something of a conscience, however broken it is.

Yeah she's the logical continuation of the original Terra.

Ah, I see. Well, Terra's and AI Wintergreen have already sort of filled that role during Defiance. I think Chinatown will see Wintergreen break with Addy, and Slade will probably steal him back.

I just had a thought - I've been thinking that the next two issues are called "Chinatown" because of the Kenan Kong/Chinese league of assassins storyline. But Chinatown, the film, also might hint that Slade murdered Etienne after all. I don't want it to be the case - I want Waller to be the killer - but that would be a pretty perfect reason for someone to say, "Forget it, Joey, it's Chinatown."

It's not that he doesn't write her interestingly. He totally does. But I don't like the approach that he's suddenly taking showing Terra with sexual interest in Slade still even if it isn't morally as wrong as it was before. When he first started writing her, she hated him, there was nothing like that there, and he's shown that she felt betrayed by him. It'd be more interesting if she still hated him and worked with him anyway. Especially since most modern incarnations show Terra as the more sympathetic of the two of them by default.

I'm pretty sure Terra's been extremely sexual from the first panel she's in, it's not sudden. I don't think Terra really feels that betrayed - more just hates everyone and has a huge shell around her emotions.

But Priest doesn't portray very many characters as sympathetic.

I'm pretty sure that it was defined that Terra is only working with Slade because of Adeline, actually. And has a friendship with Rose.

I seriously doubt her relationship with Rose is a motivation for Terra to work with Slade. She is always bickering and fighting with Rose.
