These are sad news indeed. I'll miss the old chap and his spunky attitude.

Adam west was the"proper" batman. No matter how darker of more realistic the batman movies get, no other actor can ever say that.....

The 1966 Batman show fueled my lifelong love of comic books. I recall watching it as a very little kid while drawing my own Batman comics on Post-It notes.

Adam West's Batman helped to reinvigorat the comic book industry. The show was a phenomenon.

    Thank you Mr. West.

Even after reading it six times I still can't believe it, the most iconic live-action Batman now gone. It's always sad to see a childhood icon pass away, especially someone as upbeat and fun as Adam West. As others have said here he will always be remembered as the Batman and his legacy always cherished in our hearts. No matter what happens to the character, to DC, Warner Bros., etc. Adam West will always be associated and connected to the character forever!

My thoughts are with his family.

Loved the show`s rerun when I was a pup. It was a comic book in live form.

    Farewell, old chum.

There are no words. The world has lost a hero today.

I'm happy he lived to see his legacy as Batman embraced again after years of mockery and glad he even got another shot in the Bat costume (even if it was animated.)

The show may have been cheesy, but Mr. Adam West simplified Batman for TV viewers and for fans like me...I thank him for that and I will never forget it.

Watched many episodes of the 1966 TV show Batman as a child and was in no small part what got me into Batman from early years.

    Devastating news.

Adam West was not 'my' Batman. But without him, I doubt any of 'my' Batmen would have got a chance to put on the cape and cowl.

If it wasn't for Adam West and the 1966 show, Batman might just have languished as a B-list comic-book character, eternally in Superman's shadow.

And yes, his interpretation of the character wasn't for everyone. But I'm glad that he lived long enough to see it become an 'acceptable' interpretation of the character over the past decade. To say nothing of being able to reprise the role in 'Return of the Caped Crusader'.

    RIP Adam West.

Another memory. In the 1990s, there was a Zorro series starring Duncan Regehr. In one episode ("The Wizard") Adam West played a scientific genius who ends up being pressured to use his talents to capture Zorro. The character's name? "Dr. Henry Wayne." And, as he comes to respect that Zorro is a force for good, he ends up being taken to Zorro's hideout...leading to this lovely bit of dialogue:

Dr. Henry Wayne: Incredible! A secret cave - how splendid!
Zorro: I thought you might appreciate it.
Dr. Henry Wayne: Oh, I do, I do... Is that a laboratory I see?
Zorro: Exactly. I have great respect for scientific endeavor, Dr. Wayne, so long as it is used for progress and not suppression.

Clearly, the writer was playing on the fact that Adam West will always be Batman in everybody's mind.

Tragic that he died from leukemia, a terrible way to go.

And are Burt Ward and Julie Newmar the only ones still alive now?
