dunno if anyone mentioned it here, but Superman is wearing some kind of mask in space in dark nights Metal #1. Oddly so is GL (first time I've seen him need one) and are the other leaguers. Also the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that Capullo forgot Aquaman can't fly, realized his mistake, and threw in a voice bubble to cover it up

Never seen that before. It seems Capullo confused Aquaman for Namor there. Namor has been shown to fly and fly in space. Brilliant.

Yes absolutely, time travel too, and late Golden Age Superman hits light speed. Right away Superman was in an arms race with all the other golden age heroes. They got faster he got faster, they got stronger and could fly, check!

I sort of assumed that this wasn't breathing gear (I mean all it is, is just mask)... It's talking gear so they can communicate in space.

As long as their is a yellow sun, then yes Superman should be able to fly in space unaided.
