Default Pop culture predictions for the 2020’s

    1. Disney might collapse under its own size.
    2. A huge backlash over China’s influence over pop culture.
    3. The return of 90’s aesthetic(or a reimagined version of it).
    4. The transformation rather then outright decline of superhero movies. Superheroes aren’t like the Western. They aren’t limited by location time period. They are way more nebulous and capable of change.

Streaming completely takes over not only as the main form of TV (as it's becoming now), but also the main way high concept works are presented.

We will see virtual escape rooms that involve wearing VR gear and walking around real life locales.

Billie Eilish will learn how to smile.

A plethora of in-universe but isolated content for Star Wars will arise.

We will see an absolutely ridiculous amount of CGI'ed actors in films.
Every day is a gift, not a given right.

I hope nostalgia stops boing the main motivator of pop culture ideas.

    Not a prediction, I guess, because I don't really think it'll happen.

Floppies die off. They reached their price cap.

Streaming more or less kills cable TV forcing cable companies to do "ala carte" channel offerings.

    Disney buys up Sony.

DC gets a whole new movie-verse. One that looks more like Marvel's. The DCEU is effectively dead.

The MCU is more or less X-Men movies. The MCU gets a soft reboot so they can use Cap and IM again.

90s and 2000s nostalgia takes over.

Just all kinds Star Wars movies and live action shows.

    • Clothing styles will first go retro 60's, 70's, 80's, or 90's. Then go high tech futuristic
    • A new music style will emerge, one that has a good beat but fewer actual words.
    • Battle Drones will replace Wrestling
    • Wearable Tech will evolve to include AI voice interfaces.
    • More original movies will be made than remakes or sequels, and more will be made based on Comic Books.

Autotune will be back - but for acting.

    All-female franchises will take off.

Lots of your favorites will die.

Depending on what happens visa vi Trump we'll either get alot of awkward avoidance of political talking points/rabid anti-trumpism or alot of "Sort the nation out finally" ideals.

VR will take off as a way to consume movies, as they create an equivalent effect to seeing anything in Imax.

Some kind of Netflix for News model will take off, buying many smaller papers. Subscribers all over the country get local news, and they have immediate resources if a local story becomes a national story.

More efforts at shared cinematic universes.

There will be more efforts at tailored experiences on streaming services. It could be possible to watch a hundred different versions of the same show based on your particular preferences (length of fight scenes, amount of nudity, etc.)

The ease of piracy will create incentives for increasing product placement.
    Sincerely,

Batman finally becomes uncool and DC decides to stop building their media around him.
Steamboat Willie will not enter the public domain (surprise, surprise).
Most of the Fox assets Disney acquired in the merger are financial albatrosses, including the Avatar sequels, with Avatar 2 barely making $450 million globally and subsequent films making less.
The Simpsons will not be cancelled. Show will still suck, as usual.
WWE goes out of business by the end of the decade due to Vince McMahon's stubbornness and repeated bad business decisions, but instead of All Elite Wrestling taking over as the #1 entry, we end up going back to a territorial system.
Hollywood still will make endless reboots and remakes.

I suspect the TV mini-series renaissance will continue with more projects due to a variety of reasons (it works well on streaming and premium cable; it allows for longer stories than movies; they can get A-list stars on board because it's not the commitment of a TV show.)
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets
