Hey all. Just wondering if anyone else read the start of the crossover between Totally Awesome Hulk and Weapon X. Personally, I picked up this issue on a whim since I thought that I was done with Totally Awesome Hulk. The team-up featuring the Asian-American heroes seemed to be a good endpoint for me. However, after reading through the issue, I must admit, the story seems quite intriguing. Mundane yet secretive lab experiments, anti-heroes willing to take extreme actions, a young hero questioning whether he should cross a line, and a return of a classic X-Men villain make this for a fantastic read.
Anyway, here are my thoughts. Warning, there be spoilers below!
- For me, the most interesting aspect of this issue centered around Amadeus. Now, the members of Weapon X all are willing to cross lines, be greedy, and take extreme actions if necessary. They have seen some pretty bad things. However, the question is whether Amadeus is willing to take those measures. While he may be smart, cocky, and brash, Amadeus isn't a killer. Although he has had a rough childhood, he hasn't seem true depravity. Thus, the scene featuring him and Lady Deathstrike struck a telling cord. She telling Amadeus of the depravity of others, that she has seen horrible things and does not forget them unlike Amadeus brought him to a real moment of reflection. Yeah, Amadeus is smart, but is he a killer? I think he'll ask himself that question a lot as the crossover continues.
- I haven't read any issue of Weapon X, but this issue really demonstrated the personalities of these team members. There were definitely badass moments, like Domino reflecting one of her bullets off of Warpath's knife, and Old Man Logan slashing Lady Deathstrike and Sabertooth. Yet, there were also great displays of character as well. Old Man Logan seems to be a smart, reflective leader. He told Amadeus one thing, and Lady Deathstrike another. Domino avarice was on display as she hung on to money as she and other X-Force members were fighting cybernetic killer cats (seriously, THEY WERE FIGHTING CYBERNETIC KILLER CATS!!!!!) So, it was cool to see the personalities of X-Force.
- I was really impressed with Reverend Stryker. His fanaticism was really disturbing and palpable in this issue. Although he is a loathsome and terrible bigot, I did appreciate his sincerity. Indeed, him telling the scientist that he wants individuals who are truly devoted to the cause was both a reprehensible and honorable scene.
- Loved that pizza gag in the beginning of the issue. At the end of the day, while everyone may be working on covert and twisted science experiments, everyone still appreciates a slice of pizza from JoJo's .
So, all in all, this was a good issue. There was some dark comedy, fun action, and poignant moments. I'm certainly interesting in reading the rest of this crossover!
