    Default The Kamandi Challenge!

This series is such a fantastic idea and it's a great tribute to Kirby for his 100th birthday celebration. There is an all star lineup of creators set to tell their own Kamandi story.

Issue #1 by Dan Abnett/Dale Eaglesham, with a prologue by DiDio/Keith Giffen
    Issue #2 by Peter J. Tomasi/Neal Adams
Issue #3 by Jimmy Palmiotti/Amanda Conner
    Issue #4 by James Tynion IV/Carlos D’Anda
Issue #5 by Bill Willingham/Ivan Reis
Issue #6 by Steve Orlando/Philip Tan
Issue #7 by Marguerite Bennett/Dan Jurgens
Issue #8 by Keith Giffen/Steve Rude
Issue #9 by Tom King/Kevin Eastman
Issue #10 by Greg Pak/Joe Prado
Issue #11 by Rob Williams/Walter Simonson
Issue #12 by Gail Simone/Ryan Sook, with an epilogue by Marv Wolfman/Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez.

"A challenge to pit creator versus creator, not only to see whose vision best captured the spirit of "King" Kirby's work, but also to learn who could create the best story traps for the other writers to escape."

An awesome first issue! Always love seeing Giffen's Kirby-like art on one of the King's characters (I highly recommend OMAC to any Kirby fans and/or anyone who just enjoys Silver Age craziness). I loved the little cameo by Kirby himself! But the real jaw dropper is the next chapter. Eaglesham took his art to another level for this one. Absolutely beatutiful stuff. Plus Abnett delivered a pretty good cliffhanger.

I agree, this was a great first issue. Been waiting a long time for a Kamandi series. It hasn't been too many years since I re-read the original but this issue makes me want to pull it out and revisit it once again.

It seems almost like something Mark Chiarello would set up.
Always good to see DC doing unique things.

Have to say the Steve Rude issue is the one I'm most looking foward to, and I'm kind of bummed that we'll only be getting an epilogue by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez (on the other hand, we are getting an epilogue by JLGL). I also wish they'd gotten George Perez to do an issue.

    Peace

Hope it sells well and we eventually get an ongoing.

I'm impressed with the fact that they put Kirby's face on the cover with the "Kirby 100" logo.

I say it again. Dan Didion may not be great with alot of characters but when it comes to classic Kirby He is one of the best to give you that feel again like his new 52 Omac series

    It was FANTASTIC!

And learning what they're going to do, having the next issue's writer "escape" from the plot that previous writer left...just so interesting as a comic reader. And then to know that the original writer will also explain the way he would have gotten the character out of the plot trap. This is frikkin cool and shows how inventive thinking can make comics cool.

I agree with Desean101101, that Dan Didio really has a great talent to write great Kirby character stories. His 52 OMAC was great.

Didio gets a lot of crap but you really have to applaud him for this one. It's really a labor of love. A great tribute the Kirby.

I just wish Paul Pope had an issue,

In Didio's letter, he was one of the creators they turned down years ago, who wanted to do a Kamandi comic.

Most excited for the Sook issue. He did the art on Kamandi in wednesday comics

Wouldn't mind him doing a mini after this thing wraps up.

My thoughts reading this were, besides that the story was on point, that I want Eaglesham to get the Kamandi series ... and I wonder every next artist that comes along will make me rethink the last one.
