Spider-Man's Greatest Battles

The Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon had a number of great fights. All the Sinister Six battles are the obvious ones but the fight with the Green Goblin at Tombstone’s dinner party is the first time I think I’ve seem the character in motion and thought they handled the fight choreography perfectly.

I will never tire of the beat downs he delivered in Secret Wars. I don’t recall the issues but there was a story right before the CS where he did really well against Professor Hulk. Some of the fights between Spider-Men in the CS were pretty impressive too.

As odd as it is to say, I enjoy seeing Spidey get royally thrashed sometimes too. Let’s face it, “Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut” wasn’t going too well for Peter until the very end. Peter tends to get clobbered by villains (even ones many now see as jokes) when he first meets them. Some favorites are the first “fights” with Kingpin, Puma, Black Tarantula, and Tombstone from the above cartoon. I also like the time Dr Doom nearly killed him (Amazing #350?).

Spidey's first battle with Doctor Doom back in ASM#5 has got to be one of my favorites. Loved how it just kept going and going. Especially how it started with a writer's blurb about how big of a battle it was going to be.

Spidey's first bout with Morlun also comes to mind as a favorite.

Also the epic fight Spidey had in ASM# 500, fighting his way up his timestream, never taking a break, having to fight through all his toughest battles to reach the present in order to save the world. Really highlights his determinator status that a lot of stories forget to show.

In addition to those mentioned I will also add his fight against the Fortunato Venom in Marvel Knights. The most powerful version up to that point but Spidey was pissed off, and pulling no punches. It was pretty refreshing to see a Spider-Man that had just had enough of this **** and was going to end Venom for good (until the symbiote abandoned the fight.) And even then, he still tried to save Angelo. Maybe not his greatest ever power showing but in terms of showing what happens when Spider-Man stops with the quips and goes for blood, anyone short of Thor is screwed.

A great battle (and one masterfully illustrated by Gil Kane) was the Spidey/Ock battle(s) that stretched over ASM #88-90 culminating in Capt Stacy's death. Easily one of the best Spidey/Ock slugfests and one that is surprisingly omitted by many of these lists.

I was super pumped when Spidey smacked the X-Men around during Secret Wars as I have never been an X-Men fan and I love Spidey. Of course I was disappointed shortly afterward when Marvel had Wasp do the exact same thing only a few issues later.

As a character that has been fighting the good fight for 55+ years, it goes without saying that Spider-Man has had a number of memorable battles throughout the Marvel Universe. If I were to narrow them down to a mere ten, they would probably be:
