    Default Curt Swan Appreciation Thread

We don't normally do appreciation threads for particular artists or writers but, I thought I might start one for one of the greatest and most famous Superman artists to work on the character, Curt Swan.

I'll start by posting a few images:

Well, if any artist deserves an appreciation thread in a Superman forum, it'd be Curt Swan. And "Swanderson" as well.

Curt Swan is classic Superman. My top three Superman artists are probably Curt Swan, JLGL and Ed McGuinness(sp).

Curt Swan is so great, and his stuff with the Legion ranks with his best Superman work. Those books for me hit the same spot that the X Men and Teen Titans do for others.

I think his influence is just as part of the comic book language as Jack Kirby or Neal Adams. I can see bits of Curt Swan in Dave Gibbons, Mike Allred, and even Brian Bolland.

To this day, Curt Swan remains the definitive Superman artist in my eyes followed by Jose Luis Garcia (praise his name), Joe Shuster, George Perez and Gary Frank.
No matter how many reboots, new origins, reinterpretations or suit redesigns. In the end, he will always be SUPERMAN

There's only one piece of Swan artwork I don't like and it's this one:

I don't know why, but it just seems like there's something off about it. Could be the way he drew Clark's face and glasses.

He always hated doing the Legion as there were too many characters to draw but Adventure 350 - 363 was his best work.

Grew up reading many issues with the legendary Curt Swan!
