Default If the DCU was shrunk down to just 12 ongoing titles ...

Which crucial dozen titles would you choose to publish?

    For me:

    1. Action Comics starring Superman
    2. Detective Comics starring Batman
    3. Wonder Woman
    4. The Flash
    5. Green Lantern
    6. Aquaman
    7. Green Arrow & Black Canary
    8. Shazam!
    9. Justice League
    10. Titans
    11. Legion of Super-Heroes
    12. Showcase

I can't really say . . . I don't buy twelve different DC titles at present, and one I do buy (Gotham Academy: Second Semester) is ending soon.
The other problem I have with this isn't a question of what titles themselves should they have / drop; it's WHO THE F#@& do they have writing and drawing them?
I'd buy more DC books (like Batman, Detective Comics, Flash, Justice League) if I could actually enjoy reading them instead of disliking/hating them.

    Aquaman
    Justice League

I don't see Shazam! getting a title considering he didn't get one in the New 52 despite being on the Justice League and is MIA in Rebirth. Superman & Batman have always appeared in two or more titles since their inception. Nightwing sells more than Aquaman, Green Arrow and is just behind Green Lantern. 12 titles is to little for a universe this big.

Toughie toughie. The big seven leaguers, for sure, instantly fill up 7 slots. Well, maybe six. Six slots, really.

    1. Batman/Detective.
    2. Superman/Action.
    3. Wonder Woman.
    4. Aquaman.
    5. Flash.
    6. Green Lantern/GLC.

The remaining slots need to balance super-teams and interesting characters that don't live in the justice league circle of friends and allies - get deeper and weirder into the DCU.

    7. Justice League itself. Or Society. The "BIG TEAM" book where all the crises go down.
    8. Some form of Titans/Teen Titans/Young Justice.
    9. Doom Patrol.

    10. Suicide Squad.
    11. Something magical - maybe Swamp Thing or Zatanna or something like that.
    12. Green Arrow or Black Canary.

Of course, this being a thread that posits the notion of reducing DC's entire line to 12 titles, I'd say there's still totally room in the books for backups featuring the most important supporting characters or other characters who didn't make the cut. Batman's backup would be Robin, Superman's would be Supergirl, and so on and so forth.

Eh, how many pages per book? How frequent do these books come out? I still say it is to small a number for DC unless each is a graphic novel size coming out every month. The infighting over characters story arcs from fans would kill this concept. If Detective Comics end up with too much Batfamily then the Batman fans who want to read his solo adventures will complain, If it is all Batman then the Batfamily fans will complain and if you compound it more then what if Duke is getting more page time then Tim Drake, Harper Row getting more page time then Cass/Steph, As a Nightwing fan I would dislike him being shifted from a solo to support character with little page time in an overcrowded Gotham.

Considering the other titles, Legion Of Superheroes haven't held a consistent Title for a while, Doom Patrol does not sell anywhere near other solo heroes.

Note that I said 12 ONGOING titles.

Any DCU mini-series, maxi-series, one-shots, and graphic novels would be exempt and could run alongside and/or apart from the ongoing dozen titles.

12 32 Page ongoing comics just won't cover all characters and would lead to a lot of them ending in limbo waiting for someone to do a graphic novel/mini-series on them. The reaction would be worse than the New 52 and would turn boards into warzones over characters. 20 to 24 may be a more decent size.

My perspective as a fan is a little different than it would be as a publisher. Which are you asking?

    Good. A big picture person.

    Of the 12, expect:

    • 3 Batman titles, at least!
    • 3 Superman titles (maybe 2)(if 2, expect 4 Batman titles)
    • Justice League
    • Titans/Teen Titans/Young Justice (1 of them)
    • Wonder Woman (DC has always kept this title)
    • whoever has the best sales for the last 3
