I voted for the 1st Kent Nelson, but technically it may have been Nabu since I'm not sure when the retcon that Nabu was possessing Kent everytime he donned the helm came up. I think by the time I came in they were already laying the framework for that so Dr Fate wasn't really Kent Nelson in more than body in any appearance.

I voted Erik Strauss - but thinking about it, I think it was actually Kent Nelson in those first few issues of Justice League - so I got that wrong.

I voted Hector cause he was the first Doctor Fate I read a real comic about, but technically I was introduced first to Doctor Fate back with the Super Powers action figures and technically I guess that WAS Kent

Technically, Kent Nelson was the first one I read about ... it was in The Immortal Dr Fate mini series from the early 80s

Then I discovered Eric and Lind Straus in the 1987 mini series by JM Dematteis and Keith Giffen

I'd like to see the original Kent Nelson origin/ adventures retold ... maybe in an Earth One graphic novel or something? (Tho I don't see it happening any time soon)

    But the poll is specifically
Who was the first (Dr.) Fate you ever read about?
so unless you first read the Super Powers comic books based on the action figure line, . . .

I read about Dr. Fate in a german pocket book. He was in a team with hour man and some other. It was pretty silly, so i guess its from the 40´s? I wont vote till i know for sure...

    It was probably a reprint of SHOWCASE 55 & 56 from 1965.

Yes Kent. He was the only Dr. Fate until the 1980s.

In polls like this, I don't normally do multiple entries for the same character-identity unless there are radical differences. In the threads asking about Green Lantern and The Atom, for instance, the versions of those characters that started appearing in the New 52 series Earth 2were (at least to me) so removed from their original Golden Age (1940s) versions that they warranted a separate entry on the poll.
