Kent Nelson. I first discovered him in the back ups to the Flash comics in the 80's. Loved him. Also really liked Eric and Linda but my favorite is probably Hector Hall. Just love the Hawkman connection.

I am amused that so many of us got to know him from the Flash backups. All I remember was one with a 'mutant ear of corn' causing all sorts of mystical mayhem on a farm in Kansas or some such nonsense, but the art was amazing and I was fascinated by the magical stuff.

First Doctor Fate I saw: Kent Nelson (Justice League Animated)

First Doctor Fate I read: Khalid Nassour (Justice League Dark 2018) so I voted him.

When I was very young I loved reading about Kent Nelson from old comics my grandfather would let me read.

My first love of Fate must have been Hector Hall back in 1999.

Dr. Fate was such a badass when I was first introduced to him in Legends #5 (1987) and his in-house ad.

Giffen's art was so stylized in that mini. Still a good layout artist, but the finished work was a bit abrasive. I preferred his work on the Dr. Fate backup stories that appeared in Flash in the late 70s. I wasn't a fan of the ongoing with that new couple as Fate. I can't get into this new kid as Fate -- I prefer the version as an elder statesman.

I guess it would be Hector Hall since I did start with the 90’s JSA run by Goyer and Johns. Wouldn’t think I count Jared because he literally died in the first issue.

This is a tough one for me, because I honestly can't recall. I know I was aware of Kent Nelson and the character in general, but I don't know that I'd read any comics with him in it (I hadn't read much of DC's at the time). Then I began reading the 1999 JSA series which of course had Hector Hall as the good doctor, so I guess for safety's sake I'd better say him, just to cover my bases.
