Love this team too! I loved that era but I never cared much for Longshot, Dazzler, or Havok. Longshot was better off a solo character which he was always intended for. Dazzler was ruined in the X-Books. Havok would have been ok imo if Polaris was there but that's only because I prefer Polaris. Gambit and Magik are great replacements and fit the family theme of the book better.

I would have gone for the same team, but minus Havok. I like Dazzler and Longshot during this time. I did want to use a character or two that wasn't part of that team at the time. That era was my favorite because CC did a great job of weaving threads to be used later.
I liked the rivalry Dazzler had with Rogue and how she and Havok would jog together, but her character become too fixated on Longshot for my taste, especially considering how independent she was in her solo series or first appearance in the Dark Phoenix Saga. I did like Longshot's naivety and innocence and also the characters from his world he brought into the X-Books like Mojo and Spiral, but he always felt like an odd fit in the X-Men for me. Maybe because he was initially a solo character who was basically loaned to the X-Men until it was time for his solo book to start.
I loved Claremont's gifts for multiple plots at once, all weaved together, before finally paying off, sometimes years later. It's unfortunate that we didn't get a chance to see him end his run the way he wanted to.
I wasn't going to do this because I couldn't really settle on members outside of my favorites, so I'll just stick with the one I grew up with.

Wolverine(Original)
Psylocke
