The cover art looks kind of dated though...and not in a good way.

During today’s Next Big Thing Panel at Comic-Con International San Diego, Marvel Entertainment announced that this fall, it would be debuting X-MEN GRAND DESIGN by acclaimed artist Ed Piskor (Hip-Hop Family Tree).

A true inclusive book for all X-Men fans, X-MEN GRAND DESIGN stitches together the stories of the important years of the X-Men. Bridging the history of everyone’s favorite mutants with the present day, it’s a title that truly sums up Marvel Legacy and its importance to the Marvel Universe.

Filled with Easter Eggs from years past for die-hard X-fans and nods to the present day X-Men stories, X-MEN GRAND DESIGN is a celebration of the X-Men – past, present, and future. Coming this fall!

Skipped straight from the 90s to a post-apocalyptic future. Yup. Perfectly right.
Also... Piskor's not new to X-Men by Decade but if this is the art, I'll sadly have to pass on this miniseries.

If the covers are to be believed, it won't go past the '90s

The comic won't cover the X-Men up to now. My obsession lasted until about issue 280."

Sounds interesting, at long as its job isn't solely 'let's retcon all this stuff for the modern books'. I only worry having it be a love letter to X-Men of the 60's through to the 90's makes what came after seem naff by comparasion. I do assume that the Morrison, San Fran, Bendis and modern fans will be hoping for something for them too.

Oh perfect. Basically all the X-Men that actually mattered which was Claremont's run. I am very happy with the cutoff here.

Isn't that basically the case though. There's a reason the X-Men were Marvel's biggest franchise back then compared to now.

Oh man, I've been pitching a mini like this in my head for years! (except mine would be a series of minis, each one taking place in a different era)

    Exciting stuff!

Not quite in the same vein but I once imagined a Telltale Game for X-Men where you played as Jean Grey and each of the six episodes would take place in a different decade/era of X-Men: First Class Jean in the 60's, Phoenix in the 70's, Pryor in the 80's, '92 Jean in the 90's, Morrison Jean in the 00's and Young 05 Jean in the present, with a storyline running through all of it and numerous guest stars. It's a nifty concept regardless.

Oh, so the period of time when Claremont treated Polaris so horribly that the character still hasn't recovered to this day. Got it.

Oh, I would definitely play this game. A lot.

Lol, so true. It's my favorite in every way except for poor Lorna's treatment. Although maybe she'll get to be fleshed out a bit more from these. Unlikely, but maybe.
