Ozymandias was somehow responsible for giving all those people cancer in the graphic novel, so perhaps he is responsible for Lex's.

Lee said that Doomsday Clock is "a sequel to Watchmen."

"It's not your classic misunderstanding between heroes where they fight before teaming up to fight a villain."

DiDio said that the next part of the "Rebirth" story would take place in Doomsday Clock, with Lee reiterating that the story was set up in the DC Universe: Rebirth #1 one shot
