Frank Miller is re-teaming with John Romita Jr. for a new 100-page graphic novel, Superman: Year One. The news was announced with Miller dropped in as an unannounced guest on DC's Saturday evening "DC Master Class" panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego.

"It has to do with revisiting the origins of a certain DC Comics character," said Miller, introducing the book. "It has to do with revisiting a certain DC Comics character who wears glasses in his normal life."

DC just did the best possible 'reimagining' of Superman's origin - American Alien - and they just threw it away with no publicity.

I mean, Frank Miller's gonna do what Frank Miller does, but is this going to be in-continuity with the current Superman?

He would never be my first choice to do a Year One story for the Man of Steel, especially compared to the other writers who've done their own takes on the concept.

Also kind of lukewarm on Romita Jr. being back on Superman.

Year One stories are supposed to be in continuity. That's the tradition (begun by Miller himself)--they can fall out of continuity later, but they have always been used in the past to establish the continuity going forward. Since I can't imagine anyone really believing that a Frank Miller Superman Year One is a definitive version of continuity, the Year One label makes no sense. DC would be throwing away a label that has served them well up to this point.

Romita Jr. shouldn't be doing anything other than Archie Comics. Didn't even have time to process an opinion of Frank Miller doing Superman because once I saw Romita Jr. I knew it was ruined.

I suppose this is the Superman and his Jewish heritage story he was talking about months ago. I'm fine with Frank Miller doing an out-of-continuity Superman story (would love it not to be another origin, but eh)... But JRJR again...? His Superman is so so ugly.
