I knew there was something up with the lack of Laurel is recent eps. Ffs. This makes so sense at all, boxing or whatever cannot substitute for years of training. It doesn't help that the actress who plays Laurel is awful too. Not looking forward to this.
"Yes...Mondo Cool"- Vegeta.
When Ted Grant first offers to train her she even comments that she's had quite a bit of self defense training, we have no idea how much time has passed since she started training or if there will be a time lapse after the winter break; It's completely plausible that she would be, at the very least, as good as Roy and Thea when she premieres as Black Canary.
I for one am thrilled! The possibility of Dinah Laurel Lance being Black Canary on this show is the entire reason I started watching it in the first place. I've never understood why people have been so vehemently opposed to Laurel having realistic human emotions to the situations she has been put in or having a character arc and growth, but she's my favorite part of the show and I'm glad it's finally paying off. Now they just need to give Laurel Black Canary's actual sonic power.
I was wondering where that kickass self-defense training that she showed off in that early season one episode went. She took out guys bigger than the one that beat her a couple of episodes while she had a bat...a bat!

I guess for some people, going out at night and sticking arrows in criminals counts as a realistic reaction to losing your sister twice, having your boyfriend cheat on you, losing a second boyfriend, losing your job and watching your parents' marriage go down the toilet.
I would rather have Dinah Lance be the Black Canary than Laurel.
Though at this point, I'd rather have a broom be outfitted with that leather outfit and have a dude in a black morph suit run around with it.
Laurel is nothing like Dinah from the comics
Ugh... Laurel is my least favourite character on the show.

i consider this good news. Laurel is my least favorite character on the show, is nothing like her comics counterpart, is primary whiny and annoying... however, I am actually a fan of Katie Cassidy's work outside of Arrow. I think her talents have been underused, but overused in poor ways. I hope and look forward to Laurel being more enjoyable and contributing more to the show other than needy, bratty drama.
The problem is that her "badass self-defense training" was REALLY poorly established even back in season 1. Yeah we're told that she's had training, but they sure haven't done a good job of actually SHOWING it. She overpowered some douche at a club and took out two garden-variety thugs, woopie. They then immediately undermine those accomplishments by having her be kidnapped or held hostage repeatedly throughout the first two seasons. And then they apparently forgot her self-defense training in season 2 because she really didn't do anything like that in season 2. So basically they've done the absolute bare minimum to even remotely try and imply that she could pull this off, and they then undermine that by using her as a damsel in distress repeatedly. So they've just flat-out bungled that aspect of her "journey." Heck a lot of viewers have probably forgotten about the self-defense training because it's been so long since it's really been shown.
A trilogy of episodes?? I hope not. And I definitely hope she doesn't become a part of team Arrow. Let her do her little vigilante thing on her own
