Thawne's modern personality was defined by Waid though. I would say Johns toned fanboyism side down a lot.

Joshua Williamson confirmed on recent CBR interview that Geoff Johns origin is canon, he explicitly said Thawne killed his own parents to focus on studying Speed Force. New52 Thawne is completely gone now.

So the only differences between new 52 thawne and rebirth thawne is that his parents died differently?


But according to rebirth this is the same character that was in new 52. He was in iron heights BC Barry beat him up and took him there. Rebirth is just a continuation of new 52.

Also his hair color changed.
