But shouldn't we be reminded that the evil and awfulness of the Nazis aren't some unique attributes but rather qualities that can be found repeatedly throughout history? Bringing in Hydra and comparing them to Nazis doesn't lessen the horrors of the Nazis. One can argue that it's exploiting said horrors for entertainment, but it's also reminding us that these things aren't unique and can keep happening.
Like with Stalin's Russia.
I think we all know that...I think. I think the question we're having is is it right for them to invoke Nazism...I think...
In fact, this goes back to my original comment. Is one of the problems here that we're all arguing about different things and not even know it?
Obviously, threads take on a life of their own and discuss what people find interesting, which is cool, but it's a bit of a shame that the forest has been missed for the trees.

That's mostly the fans who compare those characters to hitler or proclaim that they're genocidal particularly the guys and gals over at the x-books board, the only exception I think was cyclops being compared to Hitler's that was mostly a idea that was pushed by marvel in a few titles.
I think in general comparing characters like cyclops, medusa, and black bolt, and scarlet witch to Hitler and saying how they're genoicdal sends a really bad message and sets a really bad precedent.

The biggest misconception is that this story is somehow Marvel "getting even" with straight white men.
lol couldn't resist reviving this meme
The Gypsies had no home. The Doors had no bass.
Does our reality determine our fiction or does our fiction determine our reality?
Whenever the question comes up about who some mysterious person is or who is behind something the answer will always be Frank Stallone.

Maybe it's because I've been reading books about Roman history lately but I see Captain America becoming in charge with how Augustus became emperor. Both people were given vast powers which put them in charge.

I think Augustus did a better job of pretending he wasn't in charge. Granted, that was over a much longer period of time.

No at all, but Strucker and co have their own free will and agenda. Nick Fury is not the hidden big man of the Hydra, he is just playing spy game with them to stay on top. He allows them to establish a Hydra he can track and contain isn't the same thing that he found Hydra and associate with its ideology.
“If you want to really see a road map of where our movies will be (going) in the next five, 10 or 20 years, read the comics,” says Joe Quesada, Marvel’s chief creative officer. “Because they’re almost always a precursor to what’s on the horizon in our cinematic universe and our television universes.”
