And no reason why they should.

It's always been a bit of a silly thing to focus on, because Peter has rarely seemed to have any trouble finding drop-dead gorgeous women to date anyway.

To the extent that it is worth discussion, it is unfortunate that it is always viewed from the Peter-centric lens of how unrealistic or unrelatable it is for him to marry a beautiful woman. It is one of the most charming aspects of Mary Jane's character that she was an attractive, popular girl who always saw Peter's worth, even when nobody else did. The reason Peter ended up with Mary Jane was not because he was so suave. It was because of Mary Jane's character that she saw what was special about him beneath the surface.

It is denigrating to Mary Jane's history and character to say that a woman as attractive as her would not have been able to see Peter's worth. The fact that she did see it was one of the things that always set her apart.

Sorry, but I have to come back to this.

Marvel can resolve One More Day and keep telling new romances with Peter and MJ.

Marvel can keep telling new romances with Peter and MJ while retaining an endless supply of material for soap opera drama.

Marvel can find ways either dramatic or mundane to keep them apart for a time, if they need to do that for any reason.

None of these things is either-or. Whether or not to taint and destroy the romance altogether is very much either-or. One More Day completely obliterated a major element of Spider-Man, which for some fans had been an important reason why they had come to love him in the first place, in order to maybe make other elements work a little better.

Well, it's not like the stakes would be that high with Black Cat instead.

I think what Mets might be referring to with his comment is that its not so much a question if marvel COULD do it as much as they dont want to do it. But that they likely would still do it if the the series ended to give it a descent ending.

You are right and it's a fair point. What I'm saying is that a comic is not one story with a beginning and an ending, and it is a series of stories with beginnings and endings. One More Day compromised the integrity of the stories that came before and stripped the series of certain key elements that cannot be restored unless One More Day is resolved.

I mean aside from the indelible harm that it did to the characters, and its destruction of a treasured and iconic piece of Spider-Man's story that was meaningful, aspirational, heroic, and good.

With Black Cat, Peter would have more concerns that she might be persuaded.

Only because she's less likely to be a faithful partner in general. Black Cat knows that Peter is really Spider-Man just as well as Mary Jane does.

Why do we need this specific type of scenario to be especially high stakes, anyway? No matter whom Peter dates; if she can't see the value of the content of his character either as Peter or as Spidey, whether she knows his identity or not, then she is a lousy partner. Do we really need more stories where the hero wrings his hands over whether to disclose his secret identity to his lover so she will understand why he constantly flakes out on her? Or where the hero's lover threatens to leave because saving a billion lives made him late for a date? Or where she just can't take it anymore watching him go out every night wondering if he's going to come back this time? There is plenty of fodder for soap opera drama without constantly running over the same old ground.

Honestly, superhero dating tropes are some of the most tiring and repetitive in this or any genre. Peter and Mary Jane Parker used to be a breath of fresh air.
