Who's your favorite Avengers writer and why? Just getting into Marvel and am curious on your thoughts. Thanks!

Kurt Buseik because he brought the franchise back from the dead and made it a bestseller again.

    1. Stern
    2. Busiek
    3. Harras
    4. Englehart
    5. Shooter
    6. Byrne
    7. Johns
    8. Thomas
    9. Lee

I know Conway had a run in there too, but it was not memorable enough for me to know which stories it was. I also won't include Austen, because that was dreck. Bendis changed what the Avengers was all about, and drove me away from reading the book. Avengers titles today are not the same as they used to be, but there have been some decent runs, Slott , Gage and Ewing stand out above the rest.

I enjoyed Stern, Busiek and to a lesser degree I enjoyed Johns as my personal top three. Roy Thomas and BMB had their moments as well. If I had to make a top ten then I'd add Hickman, Byrne, Lee, Englehart and Harras as well.

Though in fairness I haven't really read the Avengers since the end of Secret Wars so my list may've been somewhat different if I had done.

Kurt Busiek for sure. I would probably never have my favortie character Iron Fist on the team but I still have to choose that guy above all others. His run on the Avengers made the characters feel like legends.

Well, it changes a lot, but at the moment it's probably STILL...

    ...JONATHAN HICKMAN! : )

He turned the Avengers into the ultimate team, the ultimate mythology, devouring all of rest of Marvel, and then UPPING THE ANTE! No one could ever come up with greater stakes, no one could ever line up mightier foes, no one could ever make such a day... when all of Earth's Mightiest Heroes had to bond together to fight the foes no single hero could ever hope to withstand alone...

    ...THE BEYONDERS!! : O

    O...M...G...!

He's then followed by Stan Lee, Brian Bendis and Kurt Busiek. (lol! I notice that I'm the only one with such a mixture, heh heh heh...!)

Busiek. Then Stern, Englehart, and Thomas. And, as much as he's maligned, I thought Harras' run had some pretty good stories too.

Roger Stern to me will always be the writer who "got" how to write the Avengers the best. He could do the big epics but also always kept up with the character development at the same time which is what makes a team book great to me.

I'm not as well versed in Avengers history as some but Hickman is my favourite. I really loved the scope and appreciate the ambition of his Avengers saga.

    Brian Michael Bendis

    Come at me

New Avengers was the first book I read and I love how everything between Disassembled and the Heroic Age was one huge storyline mostly orchestrated by him.

Even most of my favourite Avengers event books have been written by him.
