Repeatedly bumping a thread to pester for responses is not the same thing as someone resurrecting an old thread to make a post, and the conversation picking up from there.
If people had something to say about this subject, they'd be saying it. If no one's responding to your thread, maybe everyone's already made their point and they don't have anything else to bring up. You repeatedly asking "what about this, what about that, what about this other thing?" may or may not violate the strict letter of the rules, but it gets obnoxious after a while.
