    Default What Is This Toy?

So at work today there was a box of a bunch of random toys and they let us take anything we wanted. I found this toy and it immediately confused me. What the hell is this Spider-Man toy? Is that a suit/armor I've never seen before or what hahah? 20706698_1861714373843883_1153685868_n.jpg

"Steel Shock Spider-Man" from Toybiz's animated Spider-Man line.

    It's not very valuable

Wow, that is actually a Spider-man toy? I thought for sure it was a Spider-man head on top of another toy, I was thinking Ultron.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

It's actually from the comics, only Spidey didn't wear it as armor. It was really a separate character!

It's Joe Wade, the eeeevil Scarlet Spider, who Female Dr. Octopus created by ...something...something.... virtual reality to frame the REAL Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly)! Yes, I know way too much about the awful 90's Spider-Man comics for my own good. Why Lady Octopus felt a nobody like the Scarlet Spider really needed his reputation to take a hit is beyond me.

Anyhoo, Toybiz would occasionally take a weird concept and turn it into "Spider-Man wearing an unusual costume for a specific task" (ie: here to battle Electro) to pad out the line. That way there was always a Spider-Man on the shelf for children to buy, even if he looked like rubbish.

The picture on the front of the card doesn't look like the figure at all-almost looks like Spider-Man mixed with Quasar.

It's just a basic stock image that was used on all figures of that subset. Similar to how Darth Vader was on the box art of all Star Wars figures in the 90s. The Captain America figure from that line also has that image on his box art:
