    All Star Superman
For the Man Who Has Everything
Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
    The Last Days of Superman
The Showdown Between Luthor and Superman and its sequel where Lexor gets blown up

I'm really trying to track down more Hamilton stories. He seems like the best of the Silver Age writers.

So I was thinking of my favorites according to the creators, but that's a lot of nitpicking. So by decade:

    1970-1979
Costume, costume, who's got the costume?
Who took the super out of Superman?
    Superman 2001
    Seven-Foot-Tall - and Still Growing!
Kill Me - or Leave Me

    1980-1989
    Behold, the ultimate man!
    Warrior of Mars
Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow?
    Gang War
    Exile

    1990-1999
    Brainiac Trilogy
    Crisis of the Crimson Kryptonite
    Adventures of Superman annual 7
    Dominus Effect
    King of the world

    2000-2010
    Return to Krypton
Superman and the Legion of Superheroes
    All Star Superman
    Martyr Party People
    Secret Identity

    2010 and on
Superman and the Men of Steel
    Mirror Cracked
    Convergence: Superman
    Coming of the Supermen
    Men of Steel

thank you so much for all the input, guys. I'm going to save it all and try to find as many stories as I can. It's gonna take some time, haha.

btw, I've already read some of the stories mentioned like Kingdom Come, For the Man Who Has Everything and Red Son. All great ones that really captivate the imagination, but I need to read them again soon because it's been a while and I've forgotten details.

No - not because it's not Supermanny enough, but because it's terrible.

One caveat for the list I posted - I haven't yet read American Alien - and that looks fantastic. I got the TPB for my birthday, but it was in German so I had to send it back and wait for Christmas for the English language TPB.

Kryptonite from Superman Confidential is a great pick.

If you enjoy the Elseworlds/alternate takes on Superman like Kingdom Come and Red son, try The Super Seven (Adventures of Superman Annual #6 and Superboy Annual #1) and Superman: The Dark Side.

Alexi Luthor was great in that one. The annuals and specials from that era are pretty fantastic.

"Takes a wife" from AC #484 is another one I really like, and it's a little surprising that it received scathing commentary in the letter columns. Mostly because people thought using earth two was a cop out, though.

Superman in the seventies is a good trade by virtue of being easy to nab. Unfortunately it's a pretty random mix of stories. There are two epics that are started with no intention of finishing (I suppose it's good advertising for the Kryptonite Nevermore and Kirby Jimmy Olsen trades) and even though Superman 2001 is shown on the back cover, that one shot story is not included.

Like most Maggin stories 247 is worth a nod, but I never got the popularity of this story. The guardians aren't given a motivation, and the head games they play are pointless since they also take a direct approach. The tremendous question asked doesn't get a great answer, as the guardian plot never actually resolves (they're like, "our plan will take time!" and it never matters again) and the bulk of it is just yelling at those oppressed immigrants in California. Considering the lack of diversity in comics of the era, it stings just a bit to see how the only Latin Americans to show up are a lazy mob of cowardly migrant workers.

Curious Black is a better story in that regard. The bad rap people are quick to give it ignores just how forward thinking it was.

    Among my favorites:
    1. All-Star Superman
    2. Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
    3. Panic in the Sky
    4. The Wedding
    5. Up, Up and Away

    Honorable Mentions:
    -Electric Superman
    -Death/Return of Superman
    -For All Seasons

Some of my favorite BA stories are drawn by GK and JLGL but I'd have to look up the titles.

I do enjoy Elseworlds too and Silver age stories. Anything as long as it's imaginative, thought-provoking and has heart.
