The ones I read in my library. Lots of stuff by unknown European artists and yes, Blankets, the only I didn't find pretentious but was still boring.

No. After Alec I've been wanting to give it a try, but the only editions I've found are expensive enough to put me off.

Books like Cleveland; The Quitter; Our Cancer Year; Not the Israel My Parents Promised Me; or his American Splendor material from Vertigo are well priced, though I don't know how easy they are to get a hold of in Spain.

In Spain there are rarely English comics in stores, and the Spanish editions of these books are all hard to find or out of print. Guess I'll have to turn to Amazon.

How did you get Alec? Was it in Spanish or did you get it through Amazon?

I think Dangerous Habits is one of those stories that would fit.

Amazon Uk back when they didn't charge shipping costs if you ordered from Spain. Thankfully, I've discovered Bookdepository, but what I'm mostly interested in is the original American Splendor, which is not available there. Though I might should try his other books. Which one would you recommend to a new reader?

I'd recommend The Quitter or Cleveland. The former goes through and the latter too but focuses on his home town a bit more.

Added to my wishlist. Next time I buy something, I'll get one of these.

For giggles you might want to try to find a clip of Harvey getting kicked off the David Letterman show back in the 80's.

On top what others have recommended:
Safe Area Goradje: The War in Eastern Bosnia by Joe Sacco
    Palestine by Joe Sacco
Fax from Sarajevo by Joe Kubert
Superman vs Muhammad Ali by Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams (for kitch)
The Harlem Fighters by Max Brooks and Canaan White

Stray toasters by Bill sienkiewicz , because of it's unconventional storytelling it might not appeal to everybody.

If it doesn't appeal to everybody then how is it a book that belongs on any bookshelf?
