Starting tomorrow, I'll be taking on Vanity Fair (1848) by William Makepeace Thackeray on my Kindle. I actually tried reading it as a preteen over 40 years ago, but Thackeray's most famous novel was just way above my head then and I gave up after a few pages. Don't think I'll have any problems this time.

I struggled through it years ago (as an adult); can't remember a bloody thing about it!

Much happier with authors like Dickens, Anthony Trollope, and Jane Austen.

Dickens and Trollope are certainly more accessible reads (I haven't read anything by Austen yet).

I sort of backed in to reading Austen.

I was reading a lot of Anne Perry mysteries (primarily ones with Charlotte & Thomas Pitt, but also others) that I borrowed from the local library, then also tried a couple of "Jane Austen Mysteries" by Stephanie Barron (where Jane Austen is solving the mysteries) before actually taking the plunge with a book actually written by Austen. (I think I was suppose to read something by her in high school, but a lot of those books I faked with Cliff and Monarch Notes and such.)

I never used them myself, but I do admit to buying back issues of Classics Illustrated for the same purpose.

Hey, I got away with writing a five paragraph essay on a Shakespeare play I hadn't read (maybe Hamlet?) in 10th grade during the period before it was due (my lunch period) using primarily Monarch Notes (and a copy of the play).
I got a B+ for my efforts, but I was a little disappointed because a friend of mine in the same class who also did the same thing got an A- on his essay.

I'm currently reading through Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot mysteries. I had been on a serious non-fiction and poetry kick in recent months but thought it was time to go back to reading fiction again.
The Inspector Morse books are well worth a read too, from my experience so far. Don't buy the collected set though, the box is too small and it just gets ruined. Shame really because it's very nice.

I am reading more books than comics just now. Just finished 'Copycat' by Alex Lake. It was initially quite realistic and I loved the concept, even if it was terribly predictable, but it got a bit too much at the end. The reason behind it was pitiful and just used the old 'insane villain' idea. I would have liked a more realistic and genuine reason for it all happening.

I have two book clubs coming up too, so 'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine' and 'I Did it For Us' to read, just started the latter this afternoon.

    Can't go wrong with Drizzt.

Re-reading (listening to) the Belgariad series on Audiobook.

Also recently finished Stephen King's "On Writing" which I'd recommend to anyone who likes -- or wants -- to write.

Starting tomorrow, I will begin reading Larry Bond's First Team (2009) by, surprisingly, Larry Bond (must be a John Carpenter fan, I guess) and Jim DeFelice.

Just finished Spinning Silver by Novik. More creepy East European Fantasy and odd romance, but quite good.
