Considering the film was a reboot, creatively you can't decided to want to do a movie within the original continuity and still keep this one in. And the film was a commercial failure, so wanting to go back to that original continuity makes some sense.

So either way you look at it, its just major sour grapes. That said while I'm not going to look it up because I have no desire to see venom, I'm positive the responses the actress got for said sour grapes was beyond the pale.

Quality of the films and/or the response aside, they're not exactly separate; indeed, Aykroyd's original idea for Ghostbusters involved dimension hopping into other realities, and the IDW comic just wrapped up a major crossover involving pretty much every major (and many of the minor) media representations of the team, including the cartoons, the 2016 movie, the video games, and even a manga team, all lead by the originals.

If Reitman so chooses (not that he will), he can always opt to have the 2016 team join in the movie with some dimension hopping or other shenanigans, and it wouldn't be unprecedented. Ghostbusters is almost custom made since it already has a clearly-defined and separate ghost realm (and Gozer stated way back in the first movie that it's traveled many other dimensions before facing the Ghostbusters). But Reitman has no real incentive to do that, either.

How drunk was I to not remember any of that?

    Drunk with power, you mean?

Gozer was a destroyer of worlds. For them, the day Gozer graced their dimension was the most important day of their lives. But for Gozer, it was Tuesday.

They need to establish the new team before any dimension hopping.

    *facepalm*

I'm not saying they should do dimension hopping. I'm saying that the nature of the franchise doesn't mean it's forbidden. There's precedent.

One step at a time, folks. No one is saying to jump the gun, but that goes both ways, too -- nothing is impossible yet, either. Especially since we don't really know the script.

The previous movie of Ghostbusters was terrible imho. The reboot with a all female cast just looked like a parody of a Ghostbusters movie not actually a true Ghostbusters movie.
For example the previous Ghostbusters movie tried to be all comedy, and while the original two first Ghostbusters movies had funny scenes, that was balanced with scary scenes. The first two Ghostbusters movies have scary scenes and funny scenes, while the last movie was just comedy.
As the Honest Trailer of that movie said, all the four females Ghostbusters tried to be a comedy reliev of the movie.Well in the original only one of the Ghostbusters was a comedy reliev not all the cast.
So yeah,to see the cast of a reboot movie of Ghostbusters that failed, to criticize being made finally the Third Ghostbusters movie is surprising.

They're has been a passing the torch idea with teens or 20 somethings floating around by DA and IR since 00's.

Yep. Kate McKinnon was the closest the movie had to a straight man, and she was about right at the level of the comedy these movies should strive for. The cast was given too much leeway to banter and there wasn't enough directing and editing of them. They're all pretty funny, but the banter and jokes just got really old quickly.

Yeah, there was just too much banter in the movie. The previous movie of the Ghostbusters lacked directing and editing for sure.
To me it looked like they took the comedy aspect of the original Ghostbusters movie and made the movie all around that.Something that i thought was terrible because the original Ghostbusters movie was not just comedy.
Dr.Peter Venkman had funny scenes, but even him that was the funniest character of the original cast was not banter in about all the lines in the movie. And all the others characters of the OG Ghostbusters movie were not by far as trying to be funny as were the Ghostbusters of the 2016 movie.

I think that it's Venkman with a V though I could be wrong...

Could be the porn parody he's referencing?

I think it's past the tipping point now, but I think they could have made a really awesome Ghostbusters MMO about 8 years ago.
    Pull List:

Marvel Comics: Venom, X-Men, Black Panther, Captain America, Eternals, Warhammer 40000.
    DC Comics: The Last God

There's a ridiculously fun mobile game out. It's like Pokemon Go except you trap ghosts, not just throw a ball and hope it works.
