How dull at times it was to converse with a Saiyan. Were it not for food or fighting, all other occasions fell to the measure of naked ambitions and not one quarter empathy.

She spoke as if he could not understand the pressing need to address the threats that besieged a planet. A people.

If she would question whether he knew what it meant to stand to those hidden enemies for the sake of those who could not fight, his efforts may as well have been as invisible to his allies as they were to the rest of humanity below them at this moment.

Had things eroded between them, even in this common purpose, to bear the burden against all the Universe as it came chasing after those who simply wished to live their lives?

Perhaps things had already fragmented between them long before the Oni had departed and dismissed their mortal concerns.

"We fight these battles, precisely because nobody else can," he said. "Go on and see to your duty."

Forgot to eat? Sarada supposed nerds like Etrina would forget the more important things in life. Then again, Parsley was also a nerd, but she hadn't missed a meal in her life. "That's shocking. How could she willingly deprive herself of your cooking?" Every word Sarada said sounded like an ancient alien tongue, it was just that incomprehensible.

When Zaofan got up and started to rummage around the refrigerator, Sarada picked up the beet and handed it to Kumara. It was at that exact moment that their noses picked up the scents of the vegetables. While Sarada paid them no mind, the toddler turned her nose up.
Zaofan studied Kumara's expression, thumbing his chin with one hand. Of course its sweetness paled in comparison to the chocolate cake. But its flavour profile is too strong, and the notes are equally earthy...

"Sometimes when the mind is occupied, it has a tendency to wander and leave the body behind," he mused, "a step too far, in my humble opinion. True, the spirit is strong when the flesh may be spongy and bruised, but it's also got to have somewhere to return to."

Sarada blinked after she was given a training assignment. To... cook with Zaofan? It was... something, to be sure. She just wasn't sure what it had to do with fusion.

Well, I suppose cooking a meal together is the best form of coordination. Especially with a picky one year old as the target patron. She glanced back at her daughter and watched her nibble on the beet she gave her before getting up to get started with Zaofan. The girl was already a bottomless pit; she was already dreading what she was going to be like when her appetite really started up. At least she only eats small things, Sarada thought as she tied took off her armor and set it down on in the chair she had been sitting in. She tied the apron around herself.

"Aubergine, huh? Heh, I went to school with a kid named Aubergine. And Auber. And two name Gine." There were only so many permutations of vegetables before things got redundant. "Okay, so what's first!"
"What's first? Hmm...well, I guess for starters, how long's it been since you've cooked something?" Zaofan asked as he refined the edges of his knife on the honing steel. "Actually...you know what? Don't worry too much about it for this dish in particular. For our purposes, it's only really got to be perfect in one way."

He smirked as he flashed a thumbs up to their little client.

"Anywho, on this world the aubergine is the big, purple one. That'd be the highlight of the dish, but on its own it's sort of bland." Passing off a knife to Sarada, Zaofan took one and started cutting it lengthwise. "Cube that for me? Follow along...just like this."

If it were an emergency he'd have done this in no time. With the ease of how the knife passed through the flesh of the various vegetables and staying mindful of their own strength, if they'd gone at full tilt, they'd probably make mincemeat of it instantly...and for all the freshness and colour all it would result in would be a sludgy brown paste.

Boy was that ever a three-day weekend when he overdid the pesto for Etrina.

At this moment, he slowed down the tempo, making sure she could follow along, exactingly. Onions were dehusked, capsicums and courgettes were cut and quartered.

"It makes up the majority of the dish, hence its name, but only just so. The difference between just tossing everything over the firepit and bringing everything together-"

In no time at all, their first major step was done.

    "-is harmony. Nice job!"

Propping a pot onto the element, Zaofan hit it with some oil, and when it heat up he poured in one ingredient at a time.

"Of course, it's not always about following the recipe exactly. Each dish is always a little unique in its own way, and you'll only get out what you put into it."

The kitchen had been filled with the sharp scent of raw onions and garlic. As the heat worked into the vegetative cubes, the surfaces browned, and the aubergine was the first to soften, and as steam began to rise the rawness slowly began to depart, ascending into something beyond freshness.

"And it'll only ever be as good as the taster. Like many things, food is a little conversation the whole way through."

The savoury sounds of sauteeing rose, and as Zaofan hit it with some salt and pepper a crackling rose from the pan that quickly gave way to soft bubbling.

"Give it a stir and a small taste. Chef's treat," he said, folding his arms. "You know the little one's tastes better than anyone. What else does it need?"

That might have been why they had drifted apart so radically over the last few years. They all started off as friends and allies, then at some point, it transitioned to just business.

    Or something.

Sarada didn't know, but she did know that she didn't like it. She hoped the other humans didn't feel the same way he did. From the people she had spoken to whenever she had a chance to visit, they didn't. Maybe I'm looking too far into it and he's just an *******. She shrugged. "Whatever. I answered your question. Next time, I'll just keep it to myself."

"Give it a stir and a small taste. Chef's treat," he said, folding his arms. "You know the little one's tastes better than anyone. What else does it need?"
"I don't have time to cook anything," she answered. He may not have been looking for one at that particular moment, but she went ahead and put it in his mind for next time. Whenever that time would be. Her schedule had been filled to the brim ever since Tundra's empire was dismantled. There were billions of people to account for, many of which were taken from their homeworlds. Between that and her own people, she had barely any time to train.

In fact, she was supposed to be training right then, but Eva contacted her about the dragonballs.

"I think the vegetables are the same as on our worlds. ...Somehow." It was an uncanny similarity. The fruits were mostly different, as were the animals, but the vegetables remained a constant.

Sarada followed Zaofan's actions closely. As she cut, chopped, sliced, dehusked, and peeled, she realized it really had been years since she last cooked for herself. The last time was before she took the throne. Back then, she had to fend for herself, so she learned quickly. Presently, she had no time; plus, having professional chefs prepare all her meals for her took the novelty out of slaving over a hot stove for hours on end. It wasn't as rewarding, but when she was mentally exhausted, the last thing she cared about was a reward.

As time passed, the fruits of their labor began to manifest. The kitchen was filled with the scents of chopped onions and garlic. Behind her, she heard her little girl waiting with eager anticipation for what her mama was making for her.

"Wow, this smells great!" She stirred it like he said and tasted a little. To her, it was tasted nearly perfect, with only some kind of meat being needed to top it off. But that was the difference between an adults' finely tuned pallet and a child's ever-changing preferences. Ah, what would she want?

She frowned and thought for a long time. Then, a lightbulb went off over her head. "Oh!" She rummaged through the cabinets until she found what she was looking for, an orange. Immediately after its citrusy scent hit the air, the child started reaching for it. "Our chef will squirt some orange juice over her food because she likes them so much," she explained as she cut it in half, then squirted the orange's juices over the dish. It was a shame to add something so unorthodox to their hardwork, but when the patron was a picky toddler, thinking outside the box wasn't just a good idea, it was a necessity.

She set some in a bowl and moved over to sit back. "Here."

Sarada had been expecting some resistance, not for Kumara to impatiently eat what was on the spoon. She squealed excitedly. "Ah, I think she likes it," she said as she fed her more.

She, Princess Parsley, had become the legendary Super Bunny!!

With her newfound power, she sprung into action. She hopped at super speed back into the battle; as she did so, she raised her power enough to trigger Etrina's counter-spell. At the same time, she tapped into her own magic.
She manages to trigger it, reverting back even as the strange summon Caliban brought forth charges Etrina.

Parsley wasn't sure if it was the spell or Caliban's tangible fear from being mauled by the legendary Super Bunny, but she suddenly reverted back to normal. With her normal Saiyan form restore, she was better able to aid Etrina in her fight with the summoned creature. And she knew exactly what to do.

Her ax, Rulebreaker, appeared in her at the same time Caliban pulled another card from his deck. Crap! Her initial plan had to be halted in preference of stopping Caliban from mucking up the battle even further. In that regard, she prepared her anti-magic. "Za Warudo!"

    Switch!”

Her ax is replaced by a blank card, while Caliban hefts the weapon now instead.

One thing Parsley noticed was that Caliban's spells were varied. Transmutation, item teleportation, summoning, no two spells were alike. If it wasn't for the randomness, it would have made him a dangerous fighter. On the other hand, she didn't believe for a second that those cards were shuffled in such a way that even Caliban didn't know which one was coming next.

"Tch!" She held on to the blank card for later and held her hand out. With the enchantment Etrina placed on it years ago, the ax should have begun to pull away from Caliban to return to Parsley.

As she did, she poured a small bit of magic into the blank card to see if she could use it the same way Caliban could.

Ochazuke let the Saiyan Queen have the last word without refutation; after all, he had already set the task.

Moreover, in the first step of this evaluation, there had already emerged a limitation. If there were to be any pittance of a victory to be found in this exchange, it would be lacking for anybody.

Decisive, rash, and of limited perspective. Even after all this time...it is difficult for you to comprehend what is outside the reach of your fists.

Perhaps it had not registered to Sarada in the moment, if neither memory nor their common purpose was sufficient for her to recall why he and Zaofan had embarked to find Auroc in the first place.

It may behoove you to notice that we've been sharing our culture with you for five years already. By the scars rendered upon our world had yours remained intact.

Auroc, the Doctor...plateaus long since surpassed, what value remained in looking back? Perhaps in time, the length to which he would go to fight for his world would become apparent.

Likely when her choleric nature had settled. What a task that would be.

We have a long way to go.

"I don't have time to cook anything," she answered. He may not have been looking for one at that particular moment, but she went ahead and put it in his mind for next time. "Well, as needs must, I suppose. Still, I suppose it goes without saying I'd highly recommend it, every so often as you can manage. Taking something out of the world, extracting quality out of it with a little change, even if it's something new or strange, it's a surprisingly nuanced and contemplative process."

"Sometimes the season isn't right, or ingredients aren't ideal or exactly what you want, or god forbid the pantry is a bit lean. In these instances, you'll have to make do."

Flattening a clover of garlic with his knife, Zaofan paused for a moment as he mulled over how two planets of such stellar distances apart could have the exact same produce.

"...whoa, yeah, that is weird," he said, shuffling the puree aside, "Though if you think about it, it seems in the broad strokes our diets are..." Half of the pies were already gone. "...compatible, heh. When in doubt, listen to your gut."

Sarada followed Zaofan's actions closely. As she cut, chopped, sliced, dehusked, and peeled, she realized it really had been years since she last cooked for herself. Zaofan watched the toddler took the food without complaint. Not a single scrap of meat, extra sugar, or flavour enhancer, and it was disappearing rather quickly.

"Heh, always keeping it fresh," he nodded, "Sweet and savoury, one of the classics."

At her statement, Zaofan, raised an eyebrow, and began to whittle at a zucchini end.

"And I thought you said she had a problem with taking vegetables! Really, never thought a picky eater'd come out of your family," he grinned.

"But, ah, don't take this the wrong way, but how was it that the chef knew, and yet you didn't?"

"I'M SORRY??!" Etrina suddenly roared, a flash of magic erupting from her as she swing her arms in the direction of the charging beastie summon....flash freezing it and everything in its immediate vicinity in a frigid ice tomb. "I consented to training not punishment. Leave the idiotic jokes to the ones who can do them properly...."

Quickly glancing off to the side, Etrina made a dash to quickly scoop up the cards that her Foci had imprisoned while the bull was hopefully contained.

The bull is contained and you manage to get to the cards as Caliban looks offended.

“I’m told I’m quite funny, girlie. But you’re rather young so you probably still get...carded.”

He tosses two cards up into the air, then as they descend he pokes both.

A few moments later, a familiar fairy appears from on high.

    Lady Binder.

“Oh my, oh dear, my eyes are playing tricks! Tempus Magi, what Fae features you have my dear.”

    INTOXICATION!”

    MIRROR IMAGES!”

Etrina, you suddenly feel very drunk even as there suddenly seems to be a dozen Calibans to you and Parsley.
"You!" Etrina spins, foci cards in hand as she points an accusatory finger in Calibans direction. "You.....You all...." She stumbles a moment as her eyes glaze over.

"You....*hic*....yer jus deaf...if anyone iz sayin yer funny.....its yer face their talking abut, ya dam green turd..." Etrina wheels around, spinning an accusatory finger at everyone. "AN DAT GOES FER THE REST OF YA! *hic* ALL HUNDRED AND ONE OF YA! I'd kick yer teeth in if I wasnt doin ya looks a favor...*hic*..."

Swinging the white foci card outwards as if she were playing a childrens card game, Etrina let out a shout. "I ACTIVATE MA *HIC* TRAP CARD!"

Then she slapped it into the face of the nearest Caliban.

"Oh...I was wondering if it would be you." Etrina crossed her arms with a sigh. "Yes....I hope your getting a kick out of all this. Acting awfully surprised for the one who made a big deal about I drank that potion.....though congratulations, I suppose your prediction that we'd have a talk someday came true."

Etrina eyed the binder for a moment. "Just for the record, I come in peace....though I suppose you could have came to that conclusion already. Likely know what I want as well. So lets cut the interlude out.....There will be time enough for you to mock me over tea after I've heard what she has to say."

The mage raised an eyebrow. "Unless I have to perform some sort of quest or ceremonial dance to earn an audience.....Banespell wasn't clear on that part."

    Caliban nods and chuckles.

“If you wanted it back, all you had to do was...axe me.”

He tosses the ax back at her, a card attached to its handle as he does so.

Quickly glancing off to the side, Etrina made a dash to quickly scoop up the cards that her Foci had imprisoned while the bull was hopefully contained.

And then there were a dozen of him.

Parsley gritted her teeth as her ax came spinning toward her with one of those damned cards attached to the handle. The moment she grabbed it, whatever effect it carried would be transferred to her. Magic being what it was, it would have been prudent to avoid it. She activated the ax's anti-magic properties, which negated the return enchantment, as well as - with hope - whatever the card was. She flipped over it to let it sail off into the distance, then turned her attention to the several Calibans.

Her narrowed eyes focused on the grouping as she amped up her observation powers with her magic sense to see past the copies to find the real Caliban.
