While Stargirl is an outstanding TV series IMO, one of the best I've seen, (so far); the thought occurred to me that I'd LOVE to see a Johns era/roster JSA TV show, (obviously pre expansion Johns era, before he introduced all those very, very minor characters who would make a TV cast far too big to manage). The big problem would be that you'd either have to wait till after Stargirl wraps its final season, which should be years away, or you'd run up against the "which JSA is that" problem.

Is there a way to get around that in live action somehow? I mean, with a Stargirl-centered kiddie JSA...which just killed of most of the older JSA types, how can you have a completely different JSA that is not Stargirl centric? Or does the use of a non-standard Stargirl centered JSA preclude that?

For me, the real sticking point is going to be the creative team. As much as I loved the Johns/Robinson JSA books, the stuff that followed was absolutely terrible.

Preferably, I'd like two books. One set in the 1940s giving us a modern take at these characters in their youth knowing what we now know about the brutal realities of the time. And I'd like another focusing on a mix of the young legacy characters with the surviving old timers.

Yeah, Willingham's stuff was all kinds of terrible. The reboot was almost a metrcy kill.

For a title set in the current era:

    Tom Bronson
    Peter Cross
    Damage
    Rick Tyler (Team Leader/Mentor)
    Jack Knight (reservist) [Stargirl prefered]
    Hippolyta (reservist)
    Kendra
    Khalid
    Jade
    Jesse

Willingham's stuff wasn't the best, but it was freakin' Roy Thomas compared to Guggenheim's excrement.

This! Guggenheim's run was god awful.

Though I admit I am a little tired of hearing, "Well they just have to get the right creative team!" Folks, it's been a decade! They have had plenty of time to work out an on-going. If the JSA doesn't have an on-going after Synder's event concludes, it's because DC doesn't want them to have an on-going book.
    AKA FlashFreak
    Favorite Characters:
DC: The Flash (Jay & Wally), Starman- Jack Knight, Stargirl, & Shazam!.
MARVEL: Daredevil, Spider-Man (Peter Parker), & Doctor Strange.

    Current Pulls: Not a thing!

Was Hawkgirl not counted as a member until they went to Limbo?

Not really. Even tho she was featured in several of the Hawkman segments of the early JS stories in All-Star Comics, she never turned up in the group bookends (sort of the opposite of Wonder Woman in those early stories). In that respect, she had a place a lot like The Crimson Avenger's assistant Wing, who was an unofficial "Eighth" in the Seven Soldiers of Victory.
