Also it seems odd to 'fight' to keep something like an accent accurate in a comic book...

She's an actor, not the casting director and this was her first chance to star in a big movie, it's not like she can live off from Game of Thrones forever.

Looks like the cast and director are in NYC this weekend for interviews/junkets. That's good news, as Disney wouldn't waste their time with such things if they had completely written off this film.

Maisie has had some less than stellar attempts at American accents on indie films when she was younger (with no formal accent training), so I can see the producers/director not wanting to risk a failed Scottish one. Sophie struggled with her American accent at times but that was required. They couldn't make Jean British. Most of the audience wouldn't see a problem with Rahne having a Bristolian British accent.

New Mutants was filmed around the time of Season 7 of Game of Thrones and there's a lot of funny stories about Maisie and Sophie being obsessed with learning accents and rehearing their lines in weird accents and David Benioff and DB Weiss freaking out it. While Benioff doesn't have the best reputation after writing Wolverine Origins, he actually did grow up reading X-Men comics and my guess is he's the right age to have read early New Mutants.

Also, not sure if people know this on here, but Maisie's roommate is Bill Milner who played young Erik in First Class. He's a theater geek mainly and into accents.

So this means we'll see something that they are passing off as Limbo in the film. Could be just a nightmare type of scenario rather than the Limbo we know and love, but still... cool that they'll at least recognize this part of the comic lore even if in name only.

BTW, Limbo is winning the poll as of this post.
