Default CBR Cover Contest: Your Best Year, Yet! (April 19th to April 25th)

The theme for this week's cover contest is going to turn the attention on to you! (Yes, you!) Because this week's contest is all about...

    Your best year, yet!

Pick a comic book cover that represents the best year of your life, either explicitly referencing an event or taking a more symbolic spin on things. And if you're open to it, write up a little blurb on why it is/was your best year.

    For example....

2017 is my best year, yet, as I've got an upcoming wedding in just a few months time! And I'm feeling more like Supes than Clark Kent!

    The Cover Contest Criterion:
Post One (& ONLY ONE) Cover that fits the theme of this Week's Contest!
Cover must be from a Published Comic Book or Collected Volume!
Covers must be Posted before Voting Begins!
Voting Begins 12 AM Tuesday and Runs Until 12 AM Wednesday PST (3 AM EST)!
Vote by Posting the name in BOLD of the Poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most! A vote need not be in bold, but it does make it easier to Count-The-Votes!
The Winner of the Contest is the Entry with the MOST Votes after the Voting-Period!
It's Okay to Discuss the Covers but if you Think Someone's Entry Doesn't Fit the Theme or Violates the Rules, you Don't need to Argue it in the thread, Simply Don't Vote for It!

    Plus:
Occasionally Voting will Result in a Tie! The Person Who Started the Thread and Thus will do the Counting that Week will Usually call for a TIE-Breaking Vote from Someone who has Not Yet Voted!
AFTER the Tie-Breaker Vote, Voting Ends and the Winner is Declared by The One Who Started the Thread (or assigned surrogate) and Thus will do the Counting!

Edit: Even 17 years later, it was perhaps the best year of my life. Happy stuff long gone but not forgotten.

    Before we play
    Some dangerous game
    Before we fan
    Some harmless flame
We have to ask if this is wise
And if the game is worth the prize

With this wine and with this music
    How can anything be clear?
    Let's wait and see
    It may just be
    The perfect year

In 2008, I appeared on The Einstein Factor, a quiz show for "the person who knows everything about something and something about everything", with Batman comics as my specialist topic. I made it all the way through to the grand final, and came runner-up. This probably counts as my 15 minutes of fame.

Why girl singers in flashy costumes? Well, during my Navy days, in 1977, the ship I was stationed on was transferred from Pearl Harbor to Yokosuka, Japan where I discovered and fell in love with Pink Lady, an uber-popular duo of girl singers in flashy costumes, like below:

In 2003, I traveled to Japan where I finally got to see Pink Lady in concert during a reunion tour, something I wasn't able to do back in '77, easily one of THE happiest days in my life!

They were sexy, no doubt, but their infamous show with Jeff Altman was still very, very bad.

I don't really have a greatest year, but I'll go with 1988 for this contest anyway. Seemed like everything I did that year came up roses, especially with the ladies.

Oh, ho! I didn't think anyone here knew about Mie and Kei, or the craptastic TV show (rated the 45th worst in television history according to TV Guide) they co-hosted with Jeff Altman. I commend you for being so knowledgable!

I think the word you were looking for there was "old," WPP.

    2000...
My last year before turning 30. Got my first steady job and met the love of my life (didn't last, but what a time we had while we had it... and he was a Scorpio, so the cover fits in that way, too)

The year I got married. The cover painting is good, but the copy is hilarious!

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

It's a worrying sign that the pedant in me wants to point out that 'virginous' is not a word. The word they are looking for is 'virginal'.

    But the cover is awesome.

    Maybe she's just "virginesque"?

Most of my years were bittersweet. Mix of both good and bad, happy and sad. Before we got married, my husband and I did a fair amount of traveling, more than I had ever done in my lifetime. 1994: This was a trip that was actually put together by his family for their mother who had dreamed of going to Paris. She passed away the following year. I was surprised and grateful that they included me on the trip. It became a very special time for my boyfriend [future husband] and I, very romantic and very memorable for several reasons. A year later, 1995, just before his mother passed away, he finally proposed to me. He actually took me to the hospital to show his mother that I was wearing the engagement ring. That seemed to have made her very happy. She and I got along well, I liked her and I think she liked me and she really wanted to see her 'eternal bachelor' son finally make the commitment.

1994 was also the year I completed my Masters Degree, as a graduation present received a trip to Orlando FL, Disney and Universal and NASA. Also I started getting serious with Martial Arts.

I have been blessed with so many great years, but I found out about 4 months ago that I'm going to be a grandpa (surprise!) and the Lord has blessed me with two sons and I always wanted a daughter, but never got one. Now, I'm going to get a granddaughter!

And yes, all women are heroes! If they can give life to a child, they are heroes in my book!

In the words of Jack Horkheimer, the Star Hustler - keep looking up. I've always loved the stars, moon and the night sky. When I was a kid, I learned the stars and constellations. Got a telescope when I was a teenager. When Haley's comet came by in 1986, me and my friend Jerry found it through my telescope. Before my wife was my wife, we would go see meteor showers together with a bunch of mutual friends - spending dark, cold nights in the mountains bundled up with hot cocoa waiting to see a fireball. When I proposed to her, on the beach one night, it was fitting that we saw a huge meteor cross the sky. To this day I still look up at the stars, like saying hello to old friends. I'd love to go to space someday, see a moon base or a Mars base happen, but it seems that time is still far, far in the future. So in 2017, after marriage and kids and lots of life, I'm still grounded but also still looking up.

Every day is a gift, not a given right.
