    Default New Spider-Man: Homecoming Casting

Laura Harrier of the soap opera "One Life to Live" has been cast in a " significant role in Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

Tony Revolori of the excellent Grand Budapest Hotel has been cast as "Peter Parker’s nemesis/enemy at high school." Allegedly it will be a character named Manuel.

If you add Zendaya as Michelle, it seems like they're going with an ethically diverse supporting cast (entirely appropriate for New York City now) and new characters (unless Manuel and Michelle are placeholder names.)
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

Yeah he is, but imo Harry (and Norman) aren't true Osborns without the Osborn hairdo.

Less than half of New York City is white.

It's glaringly inaccurate to depict it otherwise.

It's glaringly annoying to race change characters for the sake of political correctness gone mad.

As long as they keep Harry/Flash/MJ/Gwen/Betty/JJJ white I'll be good.

Unless said characters race/ethnicity/nationality is vital to their character (e.g. Luke Cage and Danny Rand), does it really matter?

You're presuming it's for political correctness. It very well could be for accuracy. It could be sincere, race-blind casting.

Most likely it's simply a capitalist decision.

Now watch Marvel and Sony cast a non-white Mary Jane and the internet melts down.

    It will be glorious.

As long as the actress dyes her hair red, I think I'll be fine with it .

It's the Afro-American Human Torch all over again (and in this case, the change was unnecessary and do not add anything to the movie).

Well, yeah. Kristin Kreuk's Lana Lang had a lot of problems, but not dyeing her hair certainly wasn't one of them .

Though I think MJ as a redhead is a lot more iconic a look compared to Lana Lang as a redhead.

This isn't political correctness, this is accuracy for accuracy's sake.

I'd say that one of Zendaya and Laura are playing Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane Watson, and that Tony could maybe be Eddie Brock or someone similar.
