Hope we finaly see a Mandalorian wear that cape serape style.

Also hope we get a score with some Ennio Morricone Concierto de Aranjuez style motifs.

Also great that he picked up you can tell by the butt of the rifle slung on his back, is like the one used by the original animated Fett

If the show's about a Mandalorian, why is the promo making such a big deal about the Fetts? They're not Mandalorians, just bounty hunters who use Mandalorian armor.
Doctor Strange: "You are the right person to replace Logan."
X-23: "I know there are people who disapprove... Guys on the Internet mainly."

Presumably because Jango and Boba are Bounty Hunters, and maybe the show will deal with the legacy of the Fetts. I suspect a lot of casual audiences mix up the Mandalorians and Clones anyway.

Because most people likely to watch this have never heard of Mandalorians, but they do know the Fetts. It's not as if they have ever even been name-dropped in the movies.

Cause they are connected (as indicated through the armor) and it's through them most even casually familiar with the live action U, would recognize the Mandalorian armor, even if not by name.
That is where most were first introduced to it.

Yes there is a whole world, culture, and characters of Mandalor that have been and will be further expanded on.
Yet for many this will be the first look beyond the Fetts, which is exactly what the promo suggests.

I imagine that like most people, John just doesn't care that it was decided behind the scenes that Jango and by extension Boba weren't Mandalorians. It was a pretty silly retcon to begin with, the whole idea for Mandalorians comes from Boba Fett...so why make him something other than a Mandalorian?

Well, since he's a clone Boba probably can't be an actual Mandalorian.

The lore is ambiguous about whether Jango was a Mando or not, they're just very clear that the Mandalorians don't count him as a Mandalorian. I think he was an actual Mandalorian who got cast out for helping the Sith and/or Jedi create millions of Mando clones.

It wasn't ambiguous when Fioni talked about it, he flat out said that Lucas told him that Jango wasn't Mandalorian so he wasn't Mandalorian and Hidalgo reiterated that after Disney bought Star Wars and made him the king of continuity.

And even cloned Boba would still be a mandalorian if Jango was, in the same way that Dolly was still a sheep.

But that's all beside the point when it comes to being a silly, pointless retcon; the whole concept of the species comes from how cool everyone thought Boba Fett was...so why remove him from the race his popularity, and look, created?

I only know what it says on Wookiepedia.

Now you mention it, I do seem to recall Lucas not being at all happy with Mandalorians being seen as these supercool awesome badasses. So he made them pacifists, with the faction that has the awesome armour being explicitly fascist psychos without much in the way of redeeming qualities.

Yeah, basically the EU, in particular the Karen Traviss novels, made a big deal about the Mandalorians being a proud and still very active warrior race, and even had the Clonetroopers being trained by Jango's fellow Mandalorians (The Cuyval Dor) and adopting many of their customs. Also Dooku had a role in a Jedi/Mandalorian battle that Jango was present at, leading Dooku to eventually choose him as a candidate for the clone process.

However, when Clone Wars got started Lucas and co. decided on a different story for the Mandalorians, as well as the Clone trooper training which didn't seem to have any Mandalorians, just bounty hunters/Jedi/fellow clones. (This of course is now the only official canon now).

That the Jedi and the Mandalorians have been old enemies is still canon-ish, although probably not the "Knights of the old Republic" version anymore.

It was pretty much one of the issues that led to Karen Traviss quitting the book line.

LOL that whole discussion/debate ^ should answer the question.

None of that information being discused/debated would have been useful in the promo, just proves the efficiency of Favreau's choice of words, reference and focus of the promo - to just mention the Fetts then move on to another Warrior emerging.

It can and will likely all be explored in the show.

Also instead of somone complaing that he mentioned the Fetts, if he hadn't mentioned them, there'd likely be a whole other post instead complaining "why no mention, we're just going to pretend the whole look and concept wasn't created around Fett first" LOL.

As far as the promo he's acknowledging them, and letting you know we are also moving on.

Either way so far we have:
    The Mandalorian With No Name.

At least one Mandalorian was involved in training clones. Fenn Rau helped train clone pilots. Which I believe came from the Rebels episode he first appeared in. We could perhaps infer that this was employed more widely, though we have no explicit evidence. It would make sense, however. The clones were ultimately to be weapons against the Jedi, and the Mandalorians are pretty much the best anti-Jedi fighters we've ever met who weren't explicitly Sith or Sith trained. (Again, see Rebels. Sabine's Darksaber training, where Fenn basically flat out says that all the Mandalorians trick weapons were designed to combat Jedi abilities.)

True. May not be explicitly canon in the same way, but the historical animosity is at least implied in the canon materials. In addition to Fenn Rau's comments I mentioned above, there's a mural or carving that shows up in the background of at least one Clone Wars episode. As it's on Mandalore, it's obviously Mandalorians, and they're pretty clearly battling lightsaber wielding, robe wearing foes. We have no idea how old any of that stuff is, how far back it goes. But it seems likely it was a nod some of the old EU ideas about the rivalry between the Mandalorians and the Jedi. Hopefully this stuff gets explored somewhere in the new materials, as it's some of my favorite Star Wars beats.

Has it been confirmed who's under the mask? Pedro Pascal perhaps?

Actually, Fett being a Mandalorian in Legends was a retcon in and of itself; in the original ESB novelization, Fett is just described as a bounty hunting using a set of armor used by a warrior faction defeated by the Jedi during the Clone Wars. The first idea that Fett actually belonged to the culture in question was in the old Marvel Star Wars comics, where another Mandalorian gives an account of his career, including serving under Fett. However, said comic's version is so incorrect on so many levels (basically, the Clone Wars happened a few years before ANH, the Mando squad was hired to capture Princess Leia by the Emperor during that time, etc.) that none of it really seems credible. Far as I can tell, the next place to go with the "Fett was Mandalorian" story was some of the AotC tie-ins fleshing out Jango's backstory. That was, of course, overwritten by the Clone Wars TV show.

Rau actually first appeared in the Kanan comic series. One of the Mandalorian villains from Rebels was also a comics-first character in Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir.

Could be. A lot of Legends stuff does get grandfathered in.
