    Caught up now.

The whole deal with Wraith had an interesting twist that really deserved a bit more exploration me thinks. Though it was pretty fun to see Makarov's younger days.

Cocoon Wendy is never going to not be a funny visual gag. Just like Jellal getting taken out because he's horny will always be super amusing.

Laxus seems to work better as a boss character, at least if he's going to keep destroying everybody he fights just like that.

The white witch situation has taken an interesting turn. Looking forward to seeing how this'll play out... before Natsu just punches the problem away.

    100 year quest 45:

    spoilers:

Laxus beats Erza. Erza also uncharacteristically goes from Flame Pants back to armor, presumably because she needed the extra swords from the sword wheel thing. Laxus is pretty exhausted afterward. Kyria destroys the orb and the wood dragon starts to rumble.

Back with Natsu, the White Witch takes over Touka again and confronts him.
    end of spoilers

    Hmmmmmmmm.

I'm ok with the outcome. At least it is a definitive outcome between two long established members of the guild.

    spoilers:
I just kinda want somebody to defeat Laxus in a straight up fight a bit more than Erza since a lot of Laxus' fights suffer similar problems as Erza's but he's a much more static character than she is. After he stopped being an ******* he's not had any significant developments at all really and he's just there to beat up stronger opponents.

Also, I really wanted more info on the Red Lightning stuff beyond it being something he got by chance.
    end of spoilers

Having read the translation, it appears that when Laxus sits down afterward he says he is out of magic and passes out. So I guess technically it was a draw, even though Laxus stayed conscious and up for a longer time.

We don't learn about its origins outside of him saying he trained to use it at will instead of a temp power up; I think he did say something about it getting stronger in response to himself being injured by his opponent.

    Chapter 46:

White Witch nearly defeats Natsu by taking his magic, but Happy remembers that the White Witch couldn't destroy the orbs herself, so figured there must be a reason she can't touch them, and throws the orb at her. It does indeed provoke some kind of weird chain reaction, allowing Happy to get Natsu out of there, although the Witch looks pissed now.

Skullion and Mole are still tied with Mira/Elfman, and Skullion doesn't like that scenario with Kyria and Wraith defeated, so he decides they should retreat. Kyria can't eat Laxus because she would be enslaved by the White Witch if she consumed his magic which she currently controls. Skullion says that if Fairy Tail can't be defeated by his team, it means their guild's strongest force, pretty much their equivalent of things like the Spriggan 12, must be mobilized against them.

Nebal refuses to leave because he's too focused on eating Wendy. Wendy uses Dragon Force and breaks out of the cocoon, but Nebal says he can use Dragon Force too, although it is different with the 5th generation. Skullion shouts for him not to do it, as it is forbidden.

Natsu was almost immediately taken out by the big bad and the save came from a fair guess sorta hinted at in a previous chapter, and it mainly heightens the mystery of the White Witch.

The Diabolos retreat works alright since most of them still look fairly strong at this point and are still credible threats for future arcs. Though their elite forces have a lot to live up to now. Kyria's yandere infatuation with Laxus has some neat promise going for future confrontations... I hope he doesn't end up like saving her or something like that. The villainess of the story being turned due to Fairy Tail's goodness or something has used way too much in the series.

If dragon force Wendy vs. dragon force Nebal is our final fight of the arc I have quite high hopes for it. Hopefully the fifth generation DF is something really creepy. ...and hopefully it doesn't get super worfed like Sting and Rogue's DF forms were.

    Chapter 47:

Dragon Force Nebal looks really freaky and hulks him out considerably. He overpowers Wendy's DF and knocks her back to base form after a series of blows, then incapacitates her with his webbing and begins torturing her. Wendy tearfully enacts a new form (possibly a one time only thing, depending on the translation so far) and breaks out of the webbing. Apparently she took some of Irene's power back when they were doing the body/soul swapping and has been keeping it in her back pocket, so to speak. She now literally enchants Irene's power onto her (she actually calls out "Enchant Irene Belserion").

The new form seems to reboot her hair and clothing, braiding her hair and giving her a stripperific outfit reminiscent of Irene's.

Is she still a loli though, or does she become more mature?

    This is the important question.

Still a loli. It looks kind of like Irene's costume, but not exactly, lacking the witch hat and the cleavage window.

    Chapter 48:

Wendy's enchantment of Irene gives her access to some residual power Irene left behind in Wendy after she had possessed her body. Using that power, she begins to beat Nebal back with physical attacks. However, Nebal's transformation continues to grow in power as he becomes more monstrous, revealing the real reason the 5th generation dragon force is forbidden. It continues to mutate with with the dragon eater becoming more a mindless draconic beast until they lose themselves completely. Nebal eventually regains the upper hand and Wendy gets worried.

Suddenly, she is visited by a residual of Irene herself in her mind. Turns out Irene didn't just leave power behind, she left an enchantment of her persona as well. She claims this is not the same as being alive, but it is essentially a version of Irene that can converse with Wendy. She says she isn't even using 1% of the power she could be using and directs her to use a very powerful separation enchantment - the same she was using to try to separate Fairy Heart from Mavis - and it temporarily "separates" Nebal from his magic, causing him to actually turn back and suffer from that magic sickness.

Irene says she will dwell in Wendy until she finds a new body her persona can transfer to, and says not to mention it to Erza. Before going back dormant, she says she will teach Wendy the enchantment necessary to separate the White Witch from Touka.

Hmm, lots of interesting things to dwell on there.

On the one hand this is an interesting development (if a little convenient that it's brought up just now) that gives Wendy a bit more of her own seperate identity in fights (rather than just being another brawling type dragon slayer) and it seems like it won't be another power up that's here for one arc and then goes away never to be mentioned again. It also gives Wendy here own little subplot that's still relevant to the main adventure. And it might make things up for those who felt more could've been done with Irene as a character.

On the other hand, being able to seperate a person from their magic, even if only temporarily, seems like the kind of busted ability that could wreck any opponent unless they're given a specific way to overcome it. So how the author will balance that will be interesting.

    Chapter 49:

Natsu and Happy go to Wendy and find her being taught the separation enchantment by Irene, but from their perspective it looks like she is talking with herself. Natsu thinks that Wraith may be attacking Wendy and tries to use Thought Projection magic again but fails, until Wendy snaps back to reality and wonders what the hell he is doing. They go free Carla.

Lucy, Cana, and Grey off-paneled Mira and siblings (boo), with Grey apparently still kind of exhausted and exasperated from the ordeal of taking Mira down. Now they worry about who can take down Jellal and Laxus, though they may not be aware that Laxus is still unconscious and Jellal still bound. Since Cana can sense where Fairy Tail members are they head for Laxus first.

Meanwhile, Mest destroys another Orb and the dragon begins to shake again. He teleports back to the White Witch and finds her still on the ground, but he is able to destroy the orb that Happy threw at her. I'm not sure if that was the last orb or if there is one orb remaining after that. The chapter is called Last Orb so its one or the other.

Lots of funny scenes with Natsu's confusion this chapter.

I'm still wondering how this magic seperation enchancement powerful enough to work on the white witch won't be a massive game breaker for the good guys.

The Strauss siblings losing off panel is very disappointing. But I'm guessing that they want to move on with the storyline and not have to many fights taking up the time. Maybe if/when it gets animated it'll get added as filler.

Mest and the White witch are supposed to be at the final orb and it does indeed look like it's the one that's destroyed. But there might be some visual misdirection going on there. We'll see at the start of next chapter.

Also, the best idea clearly would've been to have Mest teleport to each orb while bringing along Laxus for backup.

White Witch seems to lamp shade that she legitimately fucked up in-universe when it came to considering which powers were the most efficient and convenient for her goals.

Yes, that was pretty solid lamp shade-hanging.

And to be fair, I'd forgotten all about Mest too.
