The latest episode of the Seven Deadly Sins second anime season shows the part where Galand absolutely demolishes several of the sins and some other characters. As far as villains stomping the heroes scenes go it's one of my favourites. But I'm also reminded how Galand and the Ten Commandments never really live up to the hype and the dread that this scene sets up for them.
A lot of (if not most of) fight scenes involving any of the Commandments has them being on the receving end of a one-sided beatdown.
- Meliodas whupped Galand's ass with ease in the rematch.
- Escanor overpowered Galand and almost destroyed Melascula without trying.
- Meliodas kicked Gloxinia and Drole's asses (yes, there are caveats to the fight, but he still just kicks their asses).
- Escanor has to put in some effort but in the end, Estarossa wasn't really a threat to him.
- After coming back from the dead and gaining a power-up, Meliodas humiliates Derieri and Monspeet to the point where the only reason they aren't humiliated is because he was showing them mercy.
- Merlin conveniently remembers that she's actually so haxxors OP that she can LOL-nope the commandments' curses and ROFL-stomp their mages.
- Chandler kills Gloxinia and Drole so fast and effortlessly that it happens offscreen.
- After Meliodas' new power-up he can treat Estarossa and Zeldris as non-threats.
That is a lot of ass-whuppings after such a great setup for them. Especially since before most of them, each commandments only had a brief chance to show how powerful they are (except for Galand who gets to be in several different fight). And most of the ass-whuppings are delivered by the same people (mainly Meliodas). The only Commandment that most of the other Sins get to defeat is Melascula with a group effort.
Now, I'm not saying that I hate any of this (except for the Merlin bit and how out of nowhere it is at that point, that one really annoys me). The bits with Escanor are amazing due to how fun he is as a character and several of the parts with Meliodas hit the right story beats. And the Sins that aren't really listed here get solid character arcs of their own. But it still feels disappointing that most of the Commandments didn't get to be more epic boss encounters and that there weren't more varied participants involved in defeating them.
Oh well, every series has their flaws.
Actually, one more thing. Have you noticed how Zeldris has been hyped up like crazy but he's never actually gotten to do anything of importance and now he's kinda been usurped by Meliodas? Hope he actually gets a cool fight down the line.
I made this:
There's no real explanation outside of it's Froggy's fault.
