It also calls to my mind at least the last Aquaman/Etrigan team-up, in JMS/Jesus Saiz' Brave and the Bold issue where they beat up Chthulhu. Beat up isn't particularly accurate as a descriptor, "beat back". Aquaman/Etrigan is one of my favorite odd-pairings, it's barely ever been used and I'd like to see it more. Using it here for a story where Merlin wants something in Atlantis draws all the right connections for me, though. Like ... I doubt they'll touch on it because it's continuity, but would Merlin know that his GF Nimue bestowed Arthur with Arthurian Lady-of-the-Lake water-hand powers at one point? If indeed this is the same Merlin from the same Camelot (DC Comics, folks!) as that Nimue is.
But with Etrigan here we can probably at least surmise that this is Jason Blood's Merlin, at least, so probably from the archaic medieval Arthurian Canon (Jason Blood, Morgaine le Fay, Sir Justin, Silent Knight), rather than the hyperborean Eldritch Camelot (Ystina, Gloriana, Melmoth) or obviously the Year 3000 Camelot.
A tangent but did anyone else see The Green Knight?

I can muster up zero excitement for this....
But I eagerly await the reviews from y'all!
I read the first three arcs of Deconnick run (43 to 55) and while the whole premise is a bit weird, at least at the beginning, it has been for the most part enjoyable, althought i find kind of weird how Mera killed Arthur lol. Still, some weird dialogue aside, it is a good read.

KSD run was very good, but fans did not embrace it, It was the Mera killing Arthur, that killed the book. From than onwards it went into month after month of steadily decline in sales. Although I loved the run, I must say that after the murder reveal, KellySue dragged it on too much. First with Arthur & Mera not on speaking terms, than Mera in a coma, Andy kidnapped etc. Fans gave up and dropped the book. At the end she ties up the loose ends but in a haste, if she had not dragged that much before, the ending could have been an epic one.
