Avengers swallowed up everything that is not the X-men. Just let the x-men do their thing. Its not like X-men chatacters dont get dragged into their books from time to time. (With Wolverine its all the damn time.)

That was a bad time in general but that was for reasons no longer applicable to today. You can have crossovers without the "Avengers swallowing everything up". I think Marvel stopped their Avengers hard-on some time ago, like just before the buyout happened.
